Snow Whiteby PennyStreetComment: This could be the witch in disguise and looking at herself in the high tech mirror. |

Grapes of Wrathby snafflesComment: Didn't even have to look at the title to know it. Well staged - visually effective. 8 |

The Sun Also Risesby chaliceComment: Seems a good literal interpretation of the title except for the artificial, almost painterly rendition of the clouds which could better serve a science fictional location. But the tones and contrast provide immediate impact that is pleasing to view on its own merits. 6 |

"A Prayer for Owen Meany"by DudskiComment: Haven't read the book but my kids did. From what I read in synopsis, this passes as sympathetic with the novel, and at the purely artictic and technical levels, the image is very well done. The statue could be in the mind of Owen Meany presenting himself as Christ-like. 7 |

The Snows of Kilimanjaro, by Ernest Hemingwayby hahn23Comment: Not Kilimanjaro but good mountain peaks in difficult but lovingly rendered light. As a landscape it contains nicely detailed layering and sufficient shadow detail and well-controlled highlights. For me a transitional device connecting the image to the frame is important and the foreground grasses growing off the edge do the trick well. 7 |

The Secret Gardenby lunachickenComment: This relates well enough to the novel but the photo lacks impact. Some processing could help and a modified crop to better relate the strong lines of the window to the framing edges of the image. 5 |

Slaughterhouse-Fiveby mrbig65Comment: To me this relates well to the bleakness of the novel and I like it even if not. The banding adds a primatively futuristic (or defective high-tech) effect. 6 |

I Robot, by Isaac Asimovby sfaliceComment: As a sunset, not badly exposed, brilliant color and I like the little star-flare. But it's a stretch to relate it to the novel I think. 5 for effort |
