Stairway to Heavenby novaComment: No worries on the commenting :)
I'd like to see the stairs/rails playing more of a primary role in this. As it is, they're present but somewhat subjugated. By getting closer the stairs as an element would be greatly strengthened, and since the background isn't necessarily appealing, I think the shot would benefit from this. |

Jacksonby markwileyComment: Well, to add to the dissension, I like the dark on the left, but think the eyes are a bit overworked. I also agree that BW might work great with this, since the tones seem like they would fade really nicely. It's an interesting crop since chins usually help to define our sense of how somebody looks, but I think it works well here. |

No Customersby OzComment: Great processing, but to drive home your point, show more of the store. As viewers, we can't see the whole store and it seems inconsequential. If you show more of it, the message is strengthened. This may, of course, be limited by your focal length, but that's why this SC is fun :) |

Philharmonicby tomeComment: This is a very different photo from the other, but I like it much much more. The skeleton adds much to interest, and the color of the panes just adds to that. The clouds with the construction... great job. (echoing Joe)
Agree with cosmicassassin that you should have entered this into straight. Would've gotten top marks from me if I had voted. |

May 09 - Dessertby hajekaComment: Honestly, and having seen your other food shots, this looks pretty good. The DoF works well here, accenting the chocolate flakes. Very stock-photo-esque. |

Day 4 - The San Marzanoby mrchhasComment: The vignette and vintage processing compliment the blur nicely. The frustrations of no cropping will make you better though, I swear! I've been shooting nearly straight from camera recently and the same is definitely true with any lit shots and my output has improved IMO. Again, a discussion of shutter speed/supplementary light, so don't forget that you can do some things with your pop up flash as well. Try carrying a small piece of white paper and using it as a reflector directly in front of your pop up so you can angle off of walls/ceilings. It looks silly but works decently, but you will have to set your flash power manually. Test pop at 1/1 and then adjust accordingly. |

May 10 - Time to weedby hajekaComment: I don't think the softness is entirely bad- I like that you have pretty sharp leaves along with some softness. The awesome drop off in clarity from shooting so close is pretty cool. How far from the subject were you? |

Angleby markwileyComment: Interesting street photo. The shadows and the design on the wall make this an enjoyable photo. Without them I think it might be matter of fact and not terribly interesting, but they exemplify your composition well and combine very nicely. |

Day 5 - The Lazy Flyby mrchhasComment: This has a cool lo-fi feel to it that I really like. Normally I'd comment on wanting more DoF and all that, but I like this as is. It's always a struggle to get DoF in low light environments, it's one of the reasons I really started getting into lighting initially.
I also like the drab colors. Perhaps a bit closer to 1:1 if possible, but then you'd also have more blur. |

Ti leafby CuttoothComment: Out of curiosity, are you using extension tubes on these at all? I didn't know the 50 1.4 focused so close.
In any case, the light on this blade is really cool. I like how much variety in color there is, everything from black and deep green to very bright green. The water adds a nice texture to it all. |
