Where the Wild Things Areby xianartComment: I like this one a lot, and while I appreciate and enjoy the grain, it seems a little excessive. The tilt of the head adds a lot for me too, adds emotion to the picture. |

B.P.C.J.P. (Boring, Pointless Contre-Jour Photo)by thelucasComment: I agree with this being a pretty cool shot. The shadows already add a lot, but it seems like they could have been made a bit more prominent to strengthen things. The shallow depth of field works interestingly with the shadows, in any case. You've got an interesting battle between leading lines and sharp, small details fighting it out. |

Girl in Fieldby LipstudiosComment: Your model looks less than pleased to be party to the photo ;)
To me, this shot has light that would be suitable for a contre-jour shot, but doesn't take advantage of it and use it in a constructive fashion- it's just sorta there. Visually, this light doesn't bear weight, or impact, and seems superfluous; matter of fact. |

Flowers in my windowby PaulComment: I think this is a really good example of the challenge, myself. The light is a powerful component but isn't an obnoxious and boring star flare either. Much more interesting. |

Time to Killby jjbeguinComment: Super underrated. Love the grain and variety of objects. It really gives you a lot to look at and take in. |

Cold Dawnby davidwComment: The low level lighting really adds to the atmosphere of this. I also really like the texture of the ice, as well as the glinting tips of the branches. |

Sassyby dahlinComment: I find that the shirt really adds another layer to this, a description of the obvious. I like the underexposed look you've cultivated here. |

Unroasted & Roastedby dahlinComment: Also a cool shot. The vignette works with the subject matter well, and compounds the choice of focus, pulling the viewer into the center of the scene where the detail is. |

Air-Roasted Coffeeby dahlinComment: I really like the processing on this. The texture of the bag and the fashion in which it's illuminated is very nice. The way it rather fades into oblivion gives it an interesting "aged" look, though not antique, either. |

Pushing back the boundaries by keyzComment: Congratulations Julien! Glad to see a teammate garner another ribbon.
Excellent photo, and I can totally relate to your comments about feeling alive in settings like this. You've done a wonderful job of depicting that for the viewer, and I know exactly how hard it can be to capture a moment like that for those who weren't present. |
