You completely lose the personal interaction with the subject as both eyes are obscured. It becomes more of a study in posing to me than a traditional portrait. It's a clear capture but I'm not sure that anyone would want a shot like this of themselves or anyone they know in particular.

Good angle. I don't care too much for the tint. A few nits such as cloning out the hairs on the nose and lips and maybe trying to capture the eye a little more open although its pretty obvious from the lighting how bright it was. You lose a little definition on the bridge of the nose but short of punching up the contrast and then doing a selective curves on the shadow under the nose I'm not sure what you could do to preserve that piece of the shot. Overall its artistic and technically good. Good capture.

Soft focus and grainy texture that doesn't seem to add to the composition. I like the catchlights but the seem to give away some motion. Was there any movement you had to compensate for or is that just the physical design of the light sources? The skintones are not consistent throughout but that probably has more to do with the uneven lighting that you caught on the face.

Good shot; title really puts strong context to an otherwise very good capture. Congrats on this. Lighting looks awesome with nothing blown out. I'm guessing a softbox from above but I'm looking forward to seeing some of the technical details of this one.

Skin tones seem to be a little red. Did you shoot this under tungsten lighting? Hues or Curves might pull that out of the photo.

Looks a little dark with grain in the background. Did you clone anything out from about the ears down on the background? Did you try running the shot through NeatImage (or similar)? I'd try curves to bring out he eyes a little more and remove the darker areas under the eyes. Good expression and good model, tho.

Danny,

Great shot. I really like the blur you got in the BG on this one. Nice capture.

I love Gibson's books; hope that's what this is in reference to.

Seems like there's just too much in this photo and it becomes cluttered. You seem to have numerous valid subject areas; I'd suggest a longer study on this subject with multiple exposures that tell smaller pieces of the visual story so that each section can have more impact.

Sadly this overhangs the edges on 3 sides. I could see one as artistic but with this composition I just think a shorter focal length should have been used. Good tones and almost a very nice composition.
