While not the prettiest photo in the world this is an excellent observation. Well done.

Extreme Action for Oldies (highest death rate in sport in Oz)

Comment:
Isn't the death rate attributed to sport in old age likely to be high anyway?! Do more people play bowls than any other or is it just too strenuous?

Great vibe through the processing. The subject is bang-on, but the composition is a tad too tight to the bottom and it is oversharpened. Lighting is clear but it lacks aatmosphere - although this would be a fairly good stock photo for a subject like 'bending over backwards'.

As an artistic photo, I'm not sure what I think of it really. Its main appeal for me is the tones and definition but the pose doesn't sit well aesthetically, despite the brilliant athlete involved. I wouldn't hang it myself, but it's probably a ribboner though.

Strong image (and it's not a letter formed only by cropping). I didn't get the crucifixion reference though. Grain doesn't bother me either.

Edit: The haloing could be prevented by sharpening your shot in Lab colour mode on the 'Lightness' channel only.
