Very evocative shot. Makes me feel desolate, but I'm not entirely sure why because this is a tranquil scene really. I would have adjusted height of angle to avoid the clash of horizon with the outcrop from the pole. Image is a tad noisy. [7]

Lose the border! Great scene of true desolation. Some nice textures and a good composition. [7]

Blur is quite effective in this - it adds a daunting quality. Not particularly desolate though. Nice image.

Now that's desolation - especially if your kid's got a new toy which requires eight batteries! I wonder if the composition would be improved if the batteries were on the next shelf down? Square-on view is confounded by the distortion on the shelves, so perhaps a 3/4 view would have been more effective showing more empty shelf space. Nice take on challenge. [6]

More dereliction or destruction than desolation, but it's a good crisply lit shot. Image is too skewed ant-clockwise and could do with straightening (see water line). [5]

Terror is what would spring to my mind! Desolation this isn't, but it's an interesting shot.

Great shot - perhaps not as desolate as it could be but an excellent composition and subject nonetheless. [6]

This actually looks like it's recovering and with the sunlight glanced through the trees it looks too un-desolate! Image is a bit too blue-cast for me and may have been better in mono.

This really looks too beautiful to be desolation. A great shot though, well composed. [5]

This person looks too posed and clean really. I'd go so far as to say at the height of fashion - which counters your presumed intention of showing someone down on their luck. Nicely taken, well composed shot though.
