What a golden day that seemed to be!
My eye is drawn all over the place for this, looking for something other than the sun to stare at. Obviously the sun is the first thing that you see as it is the big bright thing. The sun also appears to have 6 sides.
i like the softness of the shot as it seem like summer haze. To be honest the sun is killing me, if there was no sun and just all those golden hues, i think you would have placed higher.
You have good DOF, you do need a start point though and I can not find one. The sharpness is lacking, even though you used Gblur, there still needs to be a certain amount of crispness to it
I see hills or clouds in the background, if you ever get the chance to shoot this again without the sun, please do, as I think it would make a stunning shot. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Love the title, very nice indeed.
Your shot is on the small side. Now when you go into resizing your shot the biggest number is 720, then go down to Resolution and it will normally say 250, cut that down to 100. Then go back up to the highest number (it will have changed to a lower number) and type in your 720. You should get at least a 7x6 or higher shot.
as for your shot, I love it everything works well, a little luminance in the panes of the butterfly would have really made it pop alive. Here I just used a bit of dodge and burn,
not syaing you have to do any of this, but just a subtle hint works wonders sometimes. POV adn DOF are good a little sharpening would work wonders here too.
A lovely peaceful shot here, and I love the title, it is very fitting , well done | Photographer found comment helpful. |

I saw this and groaned out loud then beat my head on ym desk. How exactly am I meant to critique this? Are you trying to kill me??? This is the most amazing shot and something that is rarely seen on DPC if ever.
Stunning colours
amazing view
tremendous waterfall that looks like it is made out of golden rays
blue is intense
Maybe just maybe a little crop on the left hand side, so that your eye is not searching for more water where this is none.
Apart from that , stunning

I can see this shot in a fairy tale book, full of PeterPans and Pirates.
I think this shot needed a squarer crop to get rid of some of the left hand side. right now it is gorgeous framing, but I think that as there are so many branches in the foreground that it is distracting to the rest fo the shot, which you have titled Serious Moon. SO you need to have that as a good solid focal point. If you crop to the edge of that cream yellow thing that is on the left hand side floor, you will see a bigger difference in the shot.
I really like this shot and would have thought it would score higher.

I can see that you love aeroplanes and it shows in this shot.
there are a couple of things there that are niggling me. Play around with the angle when you are shooting a prop, get really low, go side wades, front back , get really close in or shoot from a distance then crop the picture really close and get some crazy angles. In this shot I would like to have seen a little more of the right hand side propella, it would have evened it out just a tad and the POV would be eyeed better.
There is also a lot of burnt sienna and softness. If you are going to go down that road, be careful wtih the softness, there has to be one point where it is pretty sharp or it can get to look like a soft flat shot. I like your sienna.
The whites are coming across as buttery cream, which is lovely.
If you are going to go this soft, you still need to sharpen, it will bring out details that you would not have through where there, right now it does tend to blend into one.
I am also wondering if you couldn't have gotten away with a steeper angle on this, something to think about
over all a great shot!!!!

I should also add, it is very grainy from doing a close crop and over processed some what, but it is a general idea Message edited by author 2009-08-08 12:43:20. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

The hill/s on the right seem "wrong", as if they are not vertically oriented within the scene. So when the eye reads this scene, it is reading it as "leaning" and it is not comfortable. It appears to be an example of "keystoning", like what you get shooting up at a skyscraper except less extreme. The problem is that there's nothing on the left to show the keystone effect on that side, so the end result is the image appears to be leaning that way. But if you rotate it to "level" the hills, then the left side is obviously way off square. This visual anomaly is producing the disconterting tension in the image.

It is bending . I don't know how to put it into words, so asked around, cos i really wanted to say something useful.

| 08/08/2009 09:24:02 AM | ~ The Candle ~by Ja-9Comment: Hi from the CC Club,
Another gorgeous shot of the slots. You can never really go wrong with these shots.
You did really well with this shot, very crisp, very clean. I especially like the fact that you can hardly see any footsteps in the sand.
The only problem with the slots is that at some point you are going to encounter daylight. You have managed teh daylight fairly well here. there is no way around it being blown out.
It is a little over sharpened, I know that the walls are made from sand and do tend to look on photos as though they are sharpened a lot as there appears to he halos on the edges, but I think you could have stepped back a bit on this one.
In Post Processing , play with the hue and saturation and selective colours. Mainly because you will find that there are hidden colours in those walls. Mainly purples believe it or not.
Great photo and they look amazing blown up and hung up on the wall. Well done | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/08/2009 09:08:57 AM | On the mountainby BrinComment: HI from the CC Club,
You certainly do seem to be on top of the world here, what a magnificent area. SO serene.
You have everything going on here, the light and dark of the dramatic clouds, the smoothness of the white shown, the path with its leading line.
There is a some grain going on in the sky and snow, but it does tend to lend itself to this shot. I almost feel like it has been oversharpened.
The path, the clouds, the positions of the mountain tops are excellent leading lines that draw your eye towards the back of the photo to give it great depth.
There is something about this shot that just seems a little odd to me and I don't know what it is, so I am going to ask another member to give you a critique as well, as I feel I am missing something. Message edited by author 2009-08-08 09:12:18. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
