Hi from the C Club.

I think I must be missing something as I am not seeing the relevance of your shot to the challenge description. Can you let me know?

Your shot seems a little over sharpened and there is some grain in the clouds. Your colours are good.

Please drop me a line so I can see your perspective on this and talk about it more

Hello from the C Club!

Great shot! there are a couple of things though that could be ironed out.

Even though I know it is a wheel, it is not coming across as a circle. The round thingy (freewheel???) is round but it is not dominant enough to be round enough for this challenge. Even though everything is an implied round, it is not round. Your spokes are too dominant as well as the gear changer thingy. The blur of the chain going around is excellent.

Post processing is excellent, you are sharp, clean, clarity is amazing, choice of black and white outstanding.

Well done

Hello from the C Club!

You asked for a more in depth critique for your shot, here it is!!!!! =)

The idea is brilliant, now you just need to work a little on the structure of the shot. When I tilt my laptop, I can see all the web , excellent. But as a standard screen shot, only the first 3-4 lines come out.

Your spider is a little out of focus, which has been discussed here. You need to have your main subject tack sharp. You could play iwth your spot metering for this on your camera, or choose to have the on board flash pop for it. Covering your on board flash with layers of tissue paper would give you a difused light which may have helped bring out the spider and web more.

WHen shooting the moon, you have to remember that it is considered the same brightness as the sun , so you have to compansate for that as well in your camera. If you had this camera on a tripod and a lower ISO and faster shutter speed you will find that you would capture more of the moon details and with the flash some more details of the spider and web.

In post processing, sharpening, exposure, shadow/highlights, contrast, levels would have made a bit of a difference.

If you can find this spider again with the moon behind it, i would love to see this shot redone.

Hi from the C Club!

Brilliant shot!!!

First impressions, the blue chips look a little odd there with no rhyme or reason. Then I read yoru description and reasized that Yes, it is a blue ribbon. Well Done. Unfortunately , you will not find that many eople that will look at your shot that long to figure it out. But I love it , now I realize what it is!

You are tack sharp, clean straight lines, DOF is great, your POV is good(ish)/ with the blue chips where you have them they throw the pattern off, there are gaps in between the lines, which throws the eye off.

Don't stop your creative side just because of that, you got a great score and placement

Hi from the C Club!!!

This looks very complicated! Can you play this game??? Would love to know the details of the game

First impressions, it looks like a bunch of candies on a board, then I look more closely and see that the whites are actually larger than the blacks. Or it is an optical illusion.

The focus is off everywhere to be honest, the left hand side is sharp, the back front 1/4 right is sharp. I am looking for somewhere for my eye to rest. Your DOF is everywhere too. If you look at your shot, you will see that your DOF seems to go in the sharpest areas.

There seems to be no rhythm or reason to your game pieces, which could be how the game is played, but for a photo needs to have something to point at and say "Ha" there it is.

Your image, even though it has several DOFs still seems to be a tad flat. Try different angles, like just one game piece and the rest behind them etc

I am not sure there is a lot you could have done in post processing, bar sharpen.

Please PM me if you have any questions or ideas you want to talk about

HI from the C Club!

You are definitely on the right track here with this shot.

Now first impressions, very static. Maybe twisting them would have helped with the POV and the DOF. Having a light shine underneath them, would have given you amazing results.

The black border is so so, I would try it without the border and see what happens

PP work, not a lot you could have done there. Your colours are clean, your lines are sharp, you are tack sharp on your focus.

But it also seems a bit grainy, bring that ISO down as low as you can and see if that helps somewhat.

I would love to see you re shoot this for a challenge, with underlighting and a twist in the straws, just to see the difference.

Hi from the C Club!

I really like this shot, it stands on its own and I can not imagine what it would be like in advance editing, well done.

For this challenge, the circle had to be the main focus of you shot. The rounder-bout is harder to see as the lights are not going around it. The clock is maybe your main focus. IT is hard to tell in this one.

Your focus is spot on, you are sharp are clean in all your lines. Your POV is a little off but we have talked abotu that. Your colours are excellent. Your post processing is excellent.

So as stated, unless we knew this was a circle challenge, we would not know that this shot was about circles.

I look forward to seeing more of your work if this is your first submission.

Hi from the C Club

Your shot is very centered, it would have been better with a different crop or even placing the ball bearing on the edge of the wall that you have there.

Also, you can be seen , which is a big no no , try standing further back and zoom in on the object! There is a lot of grain in the background as well, your high ISO could explain that.

The other commentators on your shot, where also right, just practice with angles and learn from what other people say in their comments.

I would love to see you re shoot this as i think it could be excellent

Hi from the CC Club!

Interesting shot, I would never have guessed they where nails!

First impressions are that it seem a tiny bit over sharpened. The colours are coming from I presume oxidation? With the saturation boost that you did, they are almost too full of colour, the reds seem a little overblown.

Overall a good shot that intrigued people, well done

HI from the CC Club,

I laughed when I saw your title, fits perfectly.

I like the fact that you have humour going on, and the squares and the roots, it all adds up.

The first thing that I notice is that your shot is very small, remember you can use up to 640 on one side in these shots, so that they are bigger.

the second thing is your lighting. It is very harsh. When you are lightpainting something this small you will want your seconds to be a lot smaller. Here are a couple of 30 seconds lightpainting shots, this will give you an idea as to what you can achieve with 30 seconds. Also, with lightpainting it depends on what size light you have going on here. The below shots where done with a flashlight in a tube with some tissue stuffed into it to diffuse it.
.

Next your focus is a little off. When you are doing light painting it is usually done in manual mode which you have done.

Set up your shot, in normal whatever normal mode you use. with the lights on, focus, then flick your lens from AF to MF, go to manual mode. Then shoot. this will ensure crisp sharp focus. and always remember, paint what you want the camera to see.

You are also tilted, this can be seen as you have some of the wall and table meeting, straight this out.
