A Spring Eveningby shardyComment: You've caught a lovely moment in the sky with it's corresponding light on the water, it's almost a shame there's your main subject in the way. I can't help feeling though that the use of light in the background is the most interesting thing in this shot and should have been exploited more. Again, there are some beautiful silhouetted hills in the background I would like to see more of. The structure in the foreground really doesn't interest me that much and it's composition here is unimaginative. It is silhouetted, but there's too much interesting clutter behind it for the silhouette to really pop out. There's a lovely mood to this shot though. |

lost without hopeby xburnerxComment: Interesting shot, the slanted horizon works well. I'm not sure it was a good idea to crop the model's head. There's a little too much magenta for my taste, which looks like it was added in post-processing. Nice shadow detail in the foreground, and good idea for a silhouette. |

Floating the Hood Riverby goinskiingComment: Interesting sunset, but I think you were wrong to break the rule of thirds here. Was there a reason why you put the horizon and water so low down in the frame? And the sun is too near the edge of the frame. Therefore, any points of focus are difficult to settle on as they are too near the edge of the frame. In Photoshop I think you could have played with levels and curves to make the boat stand out more from the water. The boat doesn't look too sharp, and it looks like your lens needed a clean judging by some marks in the water to the left of the boat. There are some nice colours in the sky, which might possibly have been enhanced by using Colour Balance in Photoshop. |

Play Shoesby amyleighComment: Interesting shot, possibly a little too arty for the DPC crowd. It's hard to tell whether the blown highlights are accidental, or part of the photographer's style here. The crop is unusual, again it's difficult to know if the tip of the shoe on the left has been deliberately cropped or not.The composition is certainly unusual, the shoes cut the frame in two (top and bottom) which doesn't normally work well. I think it works well here however. I think that this shot can only really work as part of a series with other similar shots, but here I will give it an above average score. |

Self Portraitby ChaszmyrComment: Beautiful... I think some people may criticise this photo in a silhouette challenge, as one point of focus might be the face, which is not silhouetted here. The arm is beautifully silhouetted, and there is just the right amount of shadow detail across the whole shot. Good lighting. Great skin tones. Very atmospheric shot. Good composition and use of negative space. |

Fantastic Voyageby MarkJayComment: Lovely shot, great colours in the sky. I'd have used the colour balance in Photoshop to change the shadow colours slightly, which seem a bit dull and grey. A tighter crop would have added more power to the shot. There are large pixelated clumps in the sky... is this as a result of using NeatImage? Or maybe saving as too low a quality jpeg. I wish the boat was much sharper. Great silhouette though. |

Gas Lampby spydrComment: This is indeed a silhouette, but I'm not sure what you wanted to achieve with it. It just seems a bit boring to me, especially with it's centred composition. I think the trees were a nice idea, but there is too much clutter in the background. Good exposure, just the right amount of shadow detail. |

The Old Barnby ToddhComment: Breathtaking. Shame the sky is a little noisy, and that the silhouette isn't less cluttered in places. I wish it was sharper. Wonderful mood and composition though. 9 |

Agave Silhouetteby f-32Comment: I don't mind seeing some shadow detail in a silhouette shot, but this is stretching the challenge too much IMO. |

The Old Oak Treeby Links 2 3 4Comment: Interesting sky and tree, but the composition doesn't work for me. There is not enough ground for my taste, and there's not enough negative space to the right of the tree. You really should have cloned out the power lines, they really spoil the shot. I love the colours in the sky on the horizon. |
