Secondary Colour Mixtureby MonaComment: A very straightforward, down-the-throat macro shot of a blossom. There's nothing that particularly excites me about it, but it's executed in a very technically-proficient way, so I have to give props for that. :-> Would make a good mousepad or coaster, I think. My eye is drawn to the central, dark cavity, which is too dark and blurry to really hold attention. |

orange wavesby GotchyaComment: Gorgeous rippling color (and I even like the rays in the upper left). There's no real compositional center, or focus-of-attention spot, but it's pretty enough I'll 9 it anyway. :-> |

There's Always Room for Jelloby StevePaxComment: Gorgeous crisp focus, and the lighting is just right to show the translucency. There's no real central point in the composition or center of attention, but it's pretty enough I'll 9 it anyway. :-> |

Fluid painting by christoComment: This is abstract enough I can't really tell what it is - and in past, I've sometimes found that to be a detraction, in my voting. However, this just strikes me, deep down, as so beautiful that I had to give it a 10 despite not knowing what you were photographing. :-> |

Where the dressing?by ladpupmoeComment: Decent colors, but this picture isn't about anything in particular. Its composition feels accidental, haphazard, jumbled. The focus choices draw my eye to the ripples in the lettuce leaves, but then there's nothing really to look at it in it. |

Lamp lightby robsmithComment: I like the colors and the composition, but this picture doesn't quite 'pop' for me. Some combination of focus and lack-of-a-focus-of-attention, I suppose. It's about the light-flare, of course, but once I'd looked at the bright spot and the rays and the pretty scallops in the rays, my eyes dropped onto the tree and kind of blinked at it, as if to ask, "Is this all there is?" 7. |

Christmas Stockby mcraelComment: Good colors, decent lighting, but the composition is incredibly muddled, and there's nowhere for the eye to alight and decide 'this is what the shot is about.' |

Shades of Greenby buck4freeComment: There's nothing particularly exciting in the frame, and the eye isn't led to anything in particular. Decent try at the topic, and nothing blatantly *wrong* with the shot, but it doesn't pop for me. |

Flaming Tulipby OneSweetSinComment: A great concept, and technically I can point out no flaws; it's a wonderful picture of a prettily-lit tulip. I can say the background bothers me for no reason I can articulate, and that it doesn't seem particularly *exciting* (probably a composition thing), but it's definitely a pretty photo, skilfully taken. 8. |

Azaleaby DiamondPeteComment: A very straightforward, head-on macro shot of a blossom. There's nothing that particularly excites me about it, but it's executed in a very technically-proficient way, so I have to give props for that. :-> A little more contrast between the focal-point blossom and the background might have helped it pop a bit more. |
