3 Inches of Bloodby adamslightComment: Totally robbed, but you expected that, didn't you? You achieved what you wanted with this shot. Just check out all the comments, especially that mine is the 5th one to come in shortly after the challenge. Very rare for something that places this close to the bottom. I would consider this entry a success. |

I think she nailed what it is I like about it, but could not quite describe. |

Nickelbackby Alex_EuropaComment: Post-vote comment:
I gave this a 4. I see some good creativity and effort in it, but it didn't come off to me with a lot of visual impact or appeal. Unfortunately, that is what most of us look for and rate an entry on. Looks like you did a long exposure and moved the nickel into the frame at some point. I popped it into PaintShop Pro to see some things, and the first thing I found was the histogram is very flat on the light end. This makes the image a bit dark and lacking dynamic range. You can see in this screenshot of my levels dialog, the histogram and the preview of the difference it made.
Some noise reduction and contrast with a high radius unsharp mask gave me this result:
Of course, my quick edit brought out a lot of other visual artifacts, but it showed those aspects that I felt were the main issues with this shot.
This is far from a snapshot, and you are certainly moving in the right direction with this effort.
Hope this helped. |

Deep Purpleby prperoldComment: An Ariel view makes for a nice change of pace. I'll expect to see this one near the top. |

The Byrdsby riversongComment: This image struck me as soft and lacking detail that it is trying to display, so I looked at the file size. 56k. This image is highly compressed, and that compression is killing detail. Always use the least compression you can get away with and still come in under challenge limits. (150k for this one) |

Newfound Gloryby jumboshrimpComment: A little on the bright side, and I think you lost some detail due to JPEG compression on this 85k image. I can see artifacts starting to show in some areas of the Koala's fur and the stump. Compression kills detail. Always use the least compression you can get away with and still come in under challenge limits. |

Stone Temple Pilot(s)by david_cComment: The greenish tone of the image does not come off well for me, I'm afraid. Looks like a thunderstorm is about to let loose. I wonder how this may have looked with a different treatment. |

Destiny's Childby timfythetooComment: Nice high key portrait. Any tips for doing something like this and not having it look just overexposed? |
