City in the skyby tokyoaheadComment: I agree with bvy, for the most part. You don't want to kill a lot of the fine fluffy detail in something like this. You want to bring it out. A high radius unsharp mask is a good way of improving local contrast without killing detail. It can be used far more subtly and with more control than curves or the contrast adjustment. Ron Bigelow has a good series of articles on his site about how to use this for best effect.

Ilford Sportsman Mk3by paynekjComment: I'm familiar with Ilford as a maker of photo supplies, but I didn't know they had also made cameras at one time. |

underexposedby bvyComment: Didn't get around to voting this one. I'm not sure what I would have voted it, but it is clearly pure street photography. Pretty appalling to be giving a child cigarettes. |

Vogueby HipychikComment: I gave this a 9. I love the bizarre appearance.
My daughter used to wear very heavy makeup for performances on her high school drill team. I joked that we needed a paint scraper to remove it. We bought a similar mask one day because it looked like her drill team makeup. She brought it in and showed it to the drill team director, announcing that this would be much easier and faster for the team. |

Broken Umbrellaby APComment: You had me fooled. The low angle and tilt suggested to me this could have been a bvy entry. It's starting to concern me a little that I seem to be liking the same stuff Posthumous does. |

Behold the Antenna!by MelethiaComment: Regarding your notes: I sometimes like the way a border sets off an image. I have realized, however, that any use of a border will find some people not liking its usage. I rarely use a border now, and on those rare occasions when I feel it is appropriate, It always gets a comment criticizing that choice. I figure each comment about it represents multiple low votes for that aspect.
Despite the criticisms, I feel a high 5 is doing well in a freestudy and this entry did find it's share of fans, including myself. I gave it an 8. I tend to like stuff that is a little quirky. |
