A brilliant take on the charliebaker style, and so much better than the other lens cap shot. The full tonal range of the lenscap is utilized very effectively.

What a great capture of a moment! Love her impish smile. I'm afraid it's all downhill after this, because I'm giving this one a 10. It hit very high on the personal appeal meter.

You just can't get this kid to smile, can you?

Added: I think the problem with this is that it coming off as just a good snapshot. There is a slight mess around her mouth, as if she just had a snack, and some dribble from her nose. The background doesn't really add anything to the scene, but it's not a consistent pattern either, so it grabs my eye and makes me wonder where she is standing. Although it is indeed backlit, the backlighting doesn't seem to add anything to the shot for me. The intensity is also very bright at the top and dark at the bottom. I might have done a little selective editing to even that out and bring out some detail at the bottom. The crop is uncomfortably tight, cutting off a bit of her hair and putting her hands right at the edge of the frame. Her expression is very neutral as well, not a smile not a scowl either. Having spent an hour walking around the Stockyards with her, I appreciate how tough it is to get her to smile. That won't make a difference to the voting population, though.

One of the problems with shots of our children is that we are crazy about them, and we see them with an affinity that others don't have.

Hope this helps some.

Not unlike the performance of many of my own cycling related shots. My cycling friends think they are great and wow over them, but DPC greets them with a big fat "MEH". But then, our cycling buddies are not impressed by the ability to ride 40 miles. That's an average morning ride. Our photography friends think 40 miles is an unbelievable distance and that we are insane.

It's all relative.

Too bad you didn't also have an "Alien" figurine to add to the drama.

Sheesh, Derek, you should know by now who is really famous for the Godzilla pics.
