Black and Whiteby Nick96Comment: Per your request a couple of tips:
-I think your A520 has some manual controls, including aperture priority. For a shot like this in low light use a low ISO on a tripod, to allow for a slow shutter speed without camera shake.
-Some basic image adjustments will help as well. I would suggest the most basic as being levels, curves, saturation and sharpening. Levels is the first and most important, IMO.
-On the compression thing. Most photo editors will have the compression settings in the file save dialog somewhere. If you need a good and free photo editor, with many of the features of the big names, I like to recommend paint.net
-The shot itself just does not have much to it. I would describe it as deadpan. Maybe a tilt, or something colorful reflected in the mirror?
Oh, and congrats on your first ribbon, even if it's the brown. I've got one as well.Message edited by author 2008-11-12 09:33:45. |

A Reflect on Constructionby Gordon_1Comment: I found this entry particularly interesting, as it is a similar reflection-in-a-building concept as my own entry in this challenge. Looking forward to seeing what you turn out in the future. |

To Observe Manby colorcarnivalComment: I see I was on target about a few things. Even though I was one who didn't care for it, I applaud you for entering the one you liked, In spite of the flak and low voting you expected and got. Sometimes you just don't know how it will be received. You have to throw it against the wall, and if it sticks then it's art! Message edited by author 2008-11-12 01:10:53. |

Mirror Pond by BrinComment: Fooled me! Since there were a number of other entries that DID use water reflections, it was a natural assumption that this was water, especially with your chosen title. I actually spent about 5 minutes examining this, trying to determine if it was a mirror or very still water. The edges were awfully straight, but the title kept saying "water". |

Aluminum - San Marino 10 Lire Coinby Marc923Comment: An incredible amount of detail you've managed to fit into his. Certainly one that is not done any justice by the thumbnail. A dumb question from an ignorant person: Why do they put a bug on their coin? I'm sure there must be a good reason. I may need to consult the oracle of Wikipedia on this one. |

W - 183.85 Tungsten 74by faeryComment: Paul ponders the final stumper in the Bayside High School spelling bee. Could he remember how to spell the word for a popular sandwich cookie?
I expect this one to place high. Don't disappoint me. |

[Au] for [Hu]by FocusPointComment: Very pretty, though it does manage to fit the topic. Too much obvious use of neatimage (or similar) for my preference, however. |

Silver Oreby MacroMakerComment: The DOF seems a bit too shallow to show off all the detail here. Also the background seems to match the subject too closely. |

Boronby brumer0Comment: Not an element, though I love the humor. Gonna have to give this one some thought, but you get a neutral 5 from me for the moment. |
