The Gloves

Comment:
The curving composition leads my eye nicely. Perhaps a little more punch in the colors would make it more DPC-friendly, but I like it. I popped it into PSP to see and though it killed some detail, some minor adjustments did give it more visual punch.

I see a lot of compression artifacts around the red letters, but your file size is already at the challenge limit, so I don't know why it is so bad. You should not have had to use a lot of compression for this image, and the file size indicates you didn't. (I'm a little anal about JPEG compression!)

Glad to see I'm not the only one crawling on the ground trying to get perspectives. Comes off slightly dull, however. I popped it into PSP to see, and did a quick levels adjust (the histogram was flat on the left). That minor adjustment really added some punch to the composition by enhancing the darker edges and guiding the eye in.

This shot is really dark and dull, but it has detail that can be brought out. I copied it into PaintShop pro and the histogram showed the distibution of light and dark had nothing on the rightmost 1/3. A quick levels adjustment improved it big time. A couple of other easy tweaks (curves, saturation, clarify, contrast & sharpening) really added some pop to the shot.

I like it, Nice clean shot, though I may have cropped it a touch wider on the left. You probably had some stuff on the left that would have then resulted in a critique of "distractions". (Can't win!)

Like the green and red at night. There's a little tilt from perspective, but nothing you can do for that under basic rules. Or, maybe the pump is actually sitting on a slight tilt...

The title is a good description. This does convey desolation. Probably a boring shift for the clerk inside.

This entry is not grabbing me, I'm afraid. Hard to nail down why. Might be the color cast, or the overall contrast and color. Not totally sure. I played with it a little in paintshop pro and I liked it a bit better with less of a yellow cast from the lighting and some levels adjust. That may just be a personal preference thing.

Whatever happened to that chain of gas stations? Perhaps it is just not in my part of the country, or was absorbed in merger with another company. Checked Wikipedia. Apparently they are still around, just not in Texas.
