Greetings from the Critique Club...

I was not able to vote on this challenge, but if I had, I probably would have given you a 6.

I really like clean and simple photographs, so my first impression is that this is great. I like the sharp contrast in black & white tones, and the texture of the wire is interesting to look at. This is a different type of personification that most entries in this challenge. Many people have used inanimate objects and posed them to give them a personality, while you have created (or found) a person made from an inanimate object. While it is a nice photo, there isn't a cleverness as seen in some of the other photos, and therefore it doesn't hold my interest for very long. Perhaps seeing the statue up close and personal in real life would be a little more interesting.

I don't mind the business as much as your other commenters. I like the details in the bulb, the bokeh in the background, and bright "star". I do think the composition would be stronger without the 3 stringed lights. Removing them would simplify this photograph in that you could look back and forth between the other elements without your eyes being led out the sides of the image. All in all, interesting composition, and good use of complimentary colours.

My first thought is I really like the gradation in colour in the background. The layering of the plant is also nice, as it allows us to focus on the one stem/branch since it is sharp compared to the other. The composition might use a little work; I feel as if I want to see more of the plant. Having a little more information on the left would alleviate this. It is a nice image, but has room for improvement.

I was not able to vote on this challenge, but if I had, I probably would have given you a 4 or 5.

My first few thoughts are 1) I cannot find the personifcation, and 2) the white balance needs to be corrected. The composition is good and you've chosen a good shutter speed to capture the motion of the hammer. In the end however, it looks like your score was affected by the fact you chose to portray an emotion, as opposed to showing emotion through an inanimate object.

My first impression is that this is a very technically sound photograph. I know how difficult it is to get a good insect shot, especially one as sharp as this. There is obviously bokeh in this shot, and it helps the viewer stay focused on the insect, as nearly everything else is soft. I might be tempted to crop out some of the right hand side so that the shape of the image is more vertical. This would flow nicely with the long thing blade of grass. I think it is a nice shot, but it doesn't really speak to me. I am obviously one of the few, however, as you finished with a great score and almost a top 10 finish. Keep up the good work.

I was not able to vote on this challenge, but if I had, I probably would have given you a 5. If this were in any other challenge other than bokeh, I would have scored it at least a 7.

First of all, let me say that this is a beautiful portrait. I like the overall lightness to this photograph, and the focus is very sharp. I am a big fan of black & white portraits, as they allow the viewer to focus on the emotions of the photo, instead of all the little details. Her eyes are very beautiful. While I can see a little bokeh, it really isn't strong enough, or enhance the photo enough to warrant a high score in this challenge. All in all, lovely photograph.

I was not able to vote on this challenge, but if I had, I probably would have given you a 7 or 8.

First of all, let me congratulate you on your first ribbon and personal best. Hopefully there will be many more ribbons to come in the future.

My first impression is that this image is very sci-fi. You've done a great job at getting this to feel right. I don't think it would have been nearly as good if it weren't for the light shinning underneath the door. There is no way of telling what room the tool is entering, but being in a house setting is related to where you would find this tool. This adds to the theme of personification. It's very difficult for me to find any flaws, which is reflected in the score you received. If I wanted to be really picky, I would say that I believe I can see the lamp on the other side of the door; the base and the head. All in all great photograph. I am sure you are smiling from ear to ear.

I took me a few seconds to get this one. At first I thought the smiley face was a little too obvious, but afterwards realized the forks were representing his/her hands. Technically speaking, the photograph is very good. The crop is great, lots of negatvie space, the focus is good, and the variation in tone in the background adds quite a bit. The only thing stopping me from voting this higher would be the unrelatedness of the forks and the smiley face. Congrats on your good finish.

I was not able to vote on this challenge, but if I had, I probably would have given you no less than a 7.

My first thought is that the crop you have chosen is perfect for this photograph. The side lighting is probably what makes this shot because it really defines the foot prints in the sand, and gives three dimensions to the turtle. I love the contrast between the sharp details of the sand in the foreground against the out of focus sand in the background. Zero complaints. Great shot and great finish.

Forget the comments you received, forget the score you got, this image is awesome. It reminds me of one of those dna prints you can get done, based on your own dna. I also looks a little futuristic.

*I just now noticed who took this photo.... why am I not surprised*

back to my critique... I am a sucker for simplicity, so this photo is really up my alley. There is enough overlapping, and variations in brightness to keep this very interesting.

Keep up the great work. Favorited!
