It is good that there is something you can do, but it is not good that you have to do it. Good black and white and I like the composition -- how the tube comes up and into the frame. Good shot. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 02/22/2007 11:00:01 PM | Disectionby msdoubletroubleComment: Ewww. This takes me back to Jr. high. . .I really like your focus on this one. Typically, the subject is in front and focused, and the background blurred, but this is almost completely reversed. Nicely done. I think this would make a cool textbook picture. I am also hereby declaring you dpc's most underrated photographer. All of your pictures are *good* technically, emotionally (that is, they get a response), compositionally, the voters just haven't discovered you yet. KEEP SHOOTING, it's not always the dpc scores that matter. |
| 02/22/2007 10:57:47 PM | Goldenby msdoubletroubleComment: I gave it a 7. :) I like the composition, the shallow dof, and the coloring on this. Nice work, overall. |
| 02/22/2007 10:57:13 PM | Shelterby msdoubletroubleComment: I like the colors in this. I would like to see a bit more of the rich yellow at the top and less green, but that is just me. I really like how the three main colors (green, red, and yellow) complement eachother in this shot. |
| 02/22/2007 10:55:57 PM | Kid's First Snackby msdoubletroubleComment: This little guy is too cute. I like the composition here. It feels the frame nicely, yet is balanced. OTOH, the shallow dof may have been more prominent if you had backed up a bit. |

Compositionally, this is a very strong image. The subject is in the right third which gives a sense of stability and balance to the shot. It is framed by the two leafy parts, which gives it "boundaries" that differentiate the veggie from the rest of the shot as well. this helps to break up the shot into different parts and add interest.
Technically, the lighting is good, the exposure is good, and the focus is good. The shallow dof helps to emphasize the subject, and you have good detail which has not been lost in shadows or highlights. The viewer can almost "feel" the vegetable, just by looking at it.
While it is a technically well done photograph, it is not one that "moves" the voter or makes them linger for a bit longer. In looking at your bar graph, there were significantly more 5s than anything, and this tells me that most viewers looked at it like I would have -- a technically good shot that has little or no emotional appeal that the viewer can identify with.
Best to you in future challenges, and if I need to further explain or clarify anything, please feel free to contact me.

| 02/21/2007 03:43:14 PM | KKK - Perpetuating Ignoranceby LeeDComment: I think if the shot was in focus a bit better, and the hood looked white instead of orangish/pink, it would have a much stronger initial impact. Is the catchlight a burning cross? Nice touch, and powerful image. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
