The grey background doesn't bother me at all, in fact, you could have probably added more detail because the pansies are so brilliant they pop right off the page. A more detailed backgrnd would serve to ground them. But, what you've done works very well.

Very subtle and nicely done. Next time, try a longer exposure to pull out more of the detail and see how it looks. You have a great place for this, shoreline w/mts in the backgrnd.. what more could you ask for!

Another trick I use for night shots.. try hitting auto levels first and see what it does. That often pulls out the light/color in the image and if you like it, you can edit from there. Hope to see more!
