| 05/20/2003 11:38:22 PM | Light and Shadowby scrooslooseComment: I can see the desire for a border, since the objects seem to 'float', but why in colour and bold?
The texture of the rose appears discernibly 'woven' and 'died', as I'm sure you know. The vase and orange, however, evoke a more primal idyll - a stunning one at that! I cannot help but regret an aesthetic discrepancy. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 05/20/2003 04:36:28 PM | Green Maple Leafby WILDBLUEComment: A 'pleasing' photo, true to life and technically apt. The composition contributes something to an otherwise potentially 'mediocre' subject and approach. Instead, because of such visible intricacies, I feel reminded of a certain bilogical matrix between all living things. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 05/20/2003 04:11:33 PM | Rope?by dsidwellComment: I almost dismissed this shot as a representation of three kinds of rope, which would have made for a somewhat more 'pedestrian' choice. Glad I clicked to view the real enlargement!
Good, simple composition, captures the essentials to make the shot work. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 05/14/2003 10:25:56 PM | Orange Autumn Leavesby Girl from OZComment: This shot would be difficult to crop, but the shadows are just too dark to reveal anything but ambiguity. The symmetry and expanse toward the horizon, however, remain worth telling. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 05/14/2003 10:14:53 PM | Orange Into Greenby bobgaitherComment: Potentially great shot with the expanse and wild texture of the shore runner, but the cobalt looks like an Exxon cover-up. :-)

| 05/14/2003 09:34:21 PM | Diligenceby zeuszenComment: It's funny to see how conflicting takes of identical elements congregate here (and elsewhere). Obviously, there's little consensus. Apparently, when it comes to elements of composition, great sensitive critical facility can follow righteous inability.
What I want to point out here, that there may well be definite rules of composition demanded by the work itself. These are often variants of what we know already, if only it were so easy to see what we know.
Of course, I'm thankful for all the comments, but if a picture like this 'lacks interest', I would really like to know why, so I may find out, if it was my failure as a photographer or something indicative of a failure of feeling or perception on part of the writer or his/her social environment.
I also could not find out, why one should 'bring the subject closer' and to what purpose. A crude 'next time crop the bottom' also does absolutely nothing except take up virtual real estate, which could be occupied by some interest in the matter at hand.
DennisF, frisca, and robbieh actually 'looked at the picture', and when they were done, had something useful to say.
