and as such, lovely.
Perhaps I'd consider rotating the photo counterclockwise a lil, to straighten the horizon. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

the treatment is interesting enough. To me, this photo illustrates, what can be done with a 'mundane' subject to achieve a very pleasing image.
Both composition (placement of diagonals coverging left to right, the halfed ((well, almost)) tree, the appropiate lighting emphasizing the street lantern). No, I'm not elated by this shot, but...
I have to say that it is very nicely and carefully crafted. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 07/10/2003 11:25:17 PM | Teatro Massimo by night (the Godfather's theatre)by zirkovicComment: The capture itself, at the least, has historic walue. It does meet the challenge in a unique way.
Given the ornate decorum of the subject, I wonder about the 'added' border, which, really, cannot 'contribute' anything to the photograph other than a distraction, even an' irritant' for a sensitive eye. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 07/10/2003 11:16:01 PM | lost faith...by AesculapiusComment: A little atypical for this challenge perhaps, but I like it better than many. The subject, lighting and overall composition seem very satisfying. I do question the perspective. Despite the fact that the arches are 'contemporary', they're also Gothic, the ultimate symmetric style. The angular perspective, to my senses, interferes...

| 07/10/2003 11:02:53 PM | Signed: The moonby daniladComment: This is an interesting idea. The image itself, however, without the connotation provided by the wonderful title, remains quite ambiguous. I imagine, if the (white) spur could either display greater definition (I don't know, if this is possible to achieve) or if it phased in or out of its still image (the lone shape of the moon, separately), this capture could be quite arresting...
It is, however, better to have tried than not to... |

| 07/10/2003 10:50:00 PM | Morning after a big Night on the Town.by cathysappComment: A worthwhile capture. The near wax-like face and stoic expression, all wrapped in Sunday's best vs. the ridicilous reflective purple of the hat... quite a stretch!
I like the lighting (the navy is still navy, the eyes visible through the shades, the skin tone very credible. What I'd wish for would be a shallower dof (a blurred/less busy background) and a different composition or crop placing the subject much further left, so that he would walk/look through the width of the shot. It may not be as simple to crop out the ribboned gift at the bottom right without interfering with the flag above it. A somewhat wider shot, however, may have included the whole thing (and possibly the hand that bore it)...
Despite this, a wild and interesting find!

| 07/08/2003 01:08:26 AM | night into dayby lucillebComment: The capture holds some (suggested) interest, particularly via the dark hues, assymmetries of line and the very faint stars (?), but remains too ambiguous for a true delight. The object at bottom right does not help to balance the picture... |
