| 10/15/2003 09:05:00 PM | Old hydroelectric plantby victor01Comment: Wonderful romanticized industrialism. A lil noisy, which suits this particular image nicely. The duotone-textural effects with that lone Chinese character (centre top) are especially delicious!
[I noticed a slight horizontal tilt to the right, which I\'d consider correcting]. > 7 | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 10/15/2003 07:46:39 PM | Electricity: bringing lightby DBoyComment: Dramatic, yet fine light, very satisfying tonal gradation, a remarkable photograph. The generous expanse of sky remains perfectly balanced (1/3 : 2/3, spatially and with respect to distribution of colour weight). Even the beams of light appear within thirds. I also applaud the avoidance of any optical artifacts for this natural capture.
The near central position of the tower (and directly under the light source) however, to my senses, fails the compositional givens of this otherwise outstanding capture. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 10/13/2003 02:23:22 PM | Howdy Ya'llby vtruanComment: By far, the most striking image in this... tepid challenge, IMO.
Excellent lighting/adjustments under what appear to be difficult conditions. A great find and apt choice of subject. With the dof not too narrow, this crips, detailed image would make a superb illustration as well.
Considering what else has been submitted, and putting no more than a little faith in the voters, there really is no competition for this photo. Outstanding! | Photographer found comment helpful. |

> Firstrich1: So would I (love to know more about the sculpture). I found it on a Vancouver Beach well after sundown, apparently a transient piece. The fog was so thick, you couldn't cut it, and the light you see in the photo is what my lens picked up. To my eyes it was pitch black.
> timmi: the raw shot, indeed, had a slightly orange hue to it. I desaturated and deliberately changed hues slightly to achieve a more subtle effect here.
> kiwiness: thanks for your consistent and generous comments, aber 'Verlauf' ist männlich, as opposed to 'Helligkeit', which is 'weiblich'. Ergo: 'der Helligkeitsverlauf'. (Will you ever forgive me for correcting your German grammar?) ;-) |
| 10/10/2003 05:48:06 PM | in betweenby a_i27Comment: Very pleasing landscape, well and consciously composed. The traditional format (dimensions of photo), IMO, fits this contemporary urbanity very well. The wonderful and subtle givens of light and haze in this shot are respectfully treated by having avoided any undue sharpening.
The title, too, is more than apt, since obviously this (the in-between) is where the action is. PS: Being a stickler for words, I 'd like to (alternatively) suggest -Gap- as a synonymous title... |
| 10/10/2003 05:34:23 PM | The Two Towersby Adrian TungComment: Bold and balanced symmetry.
The bland, nearly imperceptible presence of sky appears itself to be dwarved by the mono(duo-)lithic subject. This simple and precise composition suits the slightly wide format of the image. The perspective makes excellent use of lens perception.
Not a lurid or glorious image, but an astoundingly appropiate teatment (the choice of b and w, avoidance of excessive lighting) of such horrific architecture. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 10/10/2003 05:18:00 PM | Necropolisby jjbeguinComment: I like this, appropiately, gloomy shot. The (shaded) foreground reveals little detail beyond one of locale and setting, which effectively silhouettes the skyline (tomb rooves and crosses) against a frayed cloudscape. An unusual, thought-provoking interpretation, and an interesting one with an aptly coined title. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 10/08/2003 10:56:50 PM | When ever I want You.... by Firstrich1Comment: A FINE photo, precisely topical, so much more than just a dreamy image!
Ideally, and if possible, I'd consider removing anything distracting from the image (fire place utensils, water bottle, VCR)...

Haunting, humorous, beautiful, flawless. I hope it does well. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
