Well, boaters shouldn't wear high heels on deck, unless prepared to have their feet cut off the ankles. Great headless fun! The gloved hand 'gainst the black, too, should be more becoming a wizard than a face like Sue's or Anneke's. One of my favourites in the challege as well.

As some of the comments seem to indicate, the low scores likely came from voters who found the photo unsettling. It's ironic that what amounts to the very gist and pith of an emotionally charged image often also inspires fears. When this happens, an attempt to diminish it by scoring it low, should probably be interpreted as a desire to diminish the fear it conjured in those afflicted.

I was reading the comments on the image. The subject, of course, is not the person holding the pipe. It's fear. And no, you didn't fail to communicate this via the image. Some viewers failed to consider the obvious.

Yes, the vignette's a little one-sided.
Rotated 90º ccw, boom!, the balance is back!

I like it the way it is. The cloud, especially, is so wonderful-crazy vs. the austere minimalism of the partial arch, it makes me restless looking at it.
That's worth more to me than a couple of dark corners.

It's hard to find a face like this, even harder to conjure a matching expression.
You should win your niece's heart to pose -or not, if it comes natural still- for a session.
What strikes me most about this shot, is how exquisitely and appropriately all the ingredients (subject, expression, treatment) have combined its look.
