Great shot! I love the concept and I really like the compsition you chose here. I love the way the tire lines lead my eye right out into the horizon... very nice work! BTW- please help support this site by commenting on photos. The photographers really appreciate it! if you already comment on photos, comment on some extra ones :) - setzler

Greetings from the "Critique Club" :)

I believe I understand your intention on this shot...

Composition:

I don't find anything seriously wrong with the composition of this photo... the angle looks fine to me.

Technical:

Once again, I don't see much to complain about technically in this photo. In my opinion, a newsroom copy layout editor workspace would be brightly lit. This particular image seems a little on the dark side for that. Maybe adding some extra light here would have improved the overall image somewhat.

My Thoughts:

I read through the comments you received. The comments you received here don't really help qualify your finishing score very well. Two people showed you high scores and the rest didn't really jump for joy :)

I believe that your photo may have suffered in two areas. This photo is a 'photo of journalism' and not really a photojournalistic image in itself. If the photo that is visible in your shot was your entire image, I think it would have been a much stronger shot overall. The second issue, in my opinion, is that the photo does not produce enough 'wow' factor for the viewer. What I see here is more of a still life photo. The photo itself doesn't seem to contain any action or any other real mechanism to attract and keep the viewer's attention for a long time.

If you have any questions or comments about this critique, please feel free to contact me via my profile page here on DPC :)

This is a neat photograph... by your title, i think you may have intentionally overexposed? if so, i think it was a wrong choice in my opinion... i don't see how it improves the image... For this to be 'photojournalistic', I would rather see the face of the person playing as well... it would make the story stronger... - setzler

Congrats on an excellent photo... I love the composition... the guy with the hood 'makes' this photo since he's looking right at you. That's a great catch :) I'm giving this photo a 10, but I still have some issues with the overall image quality. I'm not sure what my issues here are, but the image could possibly oversharpened. Something just looks a bit strange about it. Maybe the contrast is a little high also? Contrast is important to me in a b/w image though... great shot :) - setzler

I'm curious why you chose black and white on this image? I would think that there is some interesting color here... I think a lower camera perspective here could be nice also :) - Please help us enhance this site that we all enjoy by commenting on photos each week. Greetings from the Critique Club :)

Jak,

I think this is a great photojournalistic image. It tells a story on its own without the need for written text. This looks like a situation of 'urban blight' to me from your image. We don't have a large number of noticeably homeless people in my community, so I don't really get to see first hand how they do live and behave.

This image could definitely be seen on the front page of a newspaper for support of a detailed article describing the situation.

I'm taking a slightly different approach to my critique on this image. The technical issues that I normally discuss don't really apply here. You have met the challenge with a very interesting photo. Whatever time of day you chose to take this shot was a good one... there is no direct sunlight that is blasting away at your colors and the deatail of the image is fine...

Keep up the good work :)
