very nice macro... the detail and depth of field are excellent... I think it would be even better if the microphone was turned to an angle... great shot :) - setzler

Greetings from the Critique Club :)

This image has a very interesting abstract quality to it... The cardboard roll patterns and the concentric circles create some nice shapes and textures in this image.

Compositionally, I believe either putting the subject a little more off center or creating a little tighter crop on the top and bottom would possibly enhance the overall image.

The color contrast in this image is excellent. The depth of field also nicely blurs out the environment and keeps the focus on the subject...

Keep up the good work :)

Hi Takethat...

This photo definitely meets the challenge theme of 'from above' without doubt. The camera angle also creates an interesting tilt on the horizon.

Compositionally, I think the photo is ok. I think it is simply lacking a strong subject overall. It's an interesting scene as a whole, but the subject material, in my opinion, is not creating a high impact photo for me.

When you start considering your ideas for challenge photos, you may want to spend equal amounts of time considering your subject choices and your challenge theme. This shot is all about the challenge theme, but weak on the subject in my opinion...

Keep up the good efforts :)

Hi Gekker....

This is an excellent macro photo... the composition is good as well... it's nicely unbalanced... I wouldn't change anything about the composition here at all. The detail is well defined.

Your depth of field selection at F2.8 could be just a little shallow for this image. The orange quarter on the left is not nearly as sharp as the quarter on the right side of the image. I think that a little more depth of field... possibly F4.5 or F5.6 would solidify the sharpness in this image quite a bit.

More depth of field would also lengthen your exposure time, which leads me to the issue of the lighting in this photo. I believe the light is just slightly too bright in this photo. It's not way too bright, but just a little. Maybe an image exposure of F4.5 and a 1/16th shutter speed would soften up the light just a little also...

Keep up the good work :)

Hi Basia....

You have met the challenge here nicely with the angle of your potograph. I think the composition also works very well since the dog's head is not centered in the frame... the focal point is the face and it is nicely off center...

The exposure looks remarkably good for the Sony FD-81 camera. Working in the snow often causes cameras to over or under expose certain areas of the image.

The border on this image is a bit distracting. The reason it's distracting is because it is a 'loud' color that does not compliment any particular part of the photo. That color seems to draw my attention significantly. When you apply a border, you may want to keep this in mind. Don't let your border become the subject of the photo and don't let it distract from your subject...

Keep up the good work :)
