Hi Kiwi...
This is a good documentary style photo. I think this is is a perfect example of what I would expect to see coupled with an article about this bird in a bird magazine or encyclopedia.
The unique color on this bird makes the photo attractive. The curves and colors definitely work well together in this composition. The shallow depth of field also nicely separates the subject from the background.
Technically, this photo has a few issues that I can't really explain. There is some artifacting along the top of the photo in the blurred background and there appears to be a 'ghost' around the beak... it could be from shooting through glass or something similar... not sure :)
Keep up the good work :)

Fly Away Homeby GordonComment: Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hi Gordon...
I think my earlier comment briefly sums up my opinion on this photo. Looking into this image, I feel like I'm viewing from the perspective of another bug. The shallow depth of field in this shot creates an interesting surrealism to add to that perspective. Your interest in the 'dream' theme definitely stands out nicely in this photo.
I particularly like the red on green color scheme in this photo as well. This is a complimentary color combination is appealing to my eye and it serves the subject well by creating a pleasant contrast in the image.
The perspective and composition in this image separates it from the mundane 'documentary' style view and creates a strong feeling of being a part of the environment rather than viewing it through some window.
I wouldn't change anything about this image... great work as usual :)

Typical Postcard?by ArtifactsComment: I like 'rustic' images and this old tractor is quite appealing to me. I think there are probably a ton of good photo opportunities on it alone :) The only thing I don't like about this photo is the overpowering level of red in the image. The red on the tractor seems 'too red' to me for some reason. I suppose it could be the natural lighting of the environment. The blue in the sky seems to be a bit weak, so maybe a polarizer would bring that out a little more :) |

Devils Tower National Monumentby SonifoComment: I always get a creepy feeling when I see this.. remembering the "Close Encounters" movie... I think you captured this landscape at a particularly good time with the clouds in the scene. For me, it seems to enhance the 'creepy' theme that already comes to mind for me when I see this. I looked around in the sky for some evidence of UFOs in your photo but couldn't see any :( Keep up the good work :) |

Eschscholtzia Californicaby TarbiniComment: This is a rather nice work of art... Whatever post processing that has been done to it makes it look more like art than photography. I find this one difficult to judge as 'photography' because of that... it sorta crosses the line between photography and digital art for me... |
