"Something Wicked This Way Comes" by Ray Bradburyby ThingFishComment: Comment Challenge: This has enough common elements to be ordinary, and enough uncommon ones (the onion dome, the paths through the tent tops, the "folding fence") to make it foreboding. The perpendicular crop rows in the foreground are used to good advantage, and keep an otherwise uninteresting foreground engaging. The use of contrast, black and white, is very effective. |

City-of-Glassby artistChanComment: Comment Challenge: Interesting building and posts between the road and the walkway. The image, however, seems to be overprocessed, with too much overexposure on the left, and too little exposure in the bottom right. I like the clouds, and the sun's reflection in the windows. I'm not sure what the tilted perspective gives you. |

we the living by Ayn Randby jmritzComment: Comment Challenge: The image has some problems, but I like that it breaks enough rules that it portrays everyday life, rather than an idealized fantasy. However, for me, that does not quite overcome the "flaws". For example, it looks like he has on headphones, but with only one pad covering an ear. Where the other pad is isn't clear - at first the outdoor light behind and above the other side of his head looks like it, but no. The door closer sits like a box on this shoulder, competing with his face in lightness and emphasis. The purpose of the bag he's holding isn't clear, nor is its decoration, nor contents. The soffet on the right side of the picture is a clear feature, and it leads the viewer's eye to...uh the bottom edge of the picture. Even if all these "flaws" were deliberate choices, for me, the combined impact has more to do with frozen in time than with living. |

The Prophetby jagarComment: Comment Challenge: Nice abstract-ish image. Great use of light, overexposure, shadow, and darkness, combined with the Eastern religious figure (on the curtain?) |

Brave New World - Aldous Huxleyby DamonComment: Comment Challenge: The lighting on this is fantastic. It definitely carries the theme. This must be a beautiful scene in person. The darkened upper right corner bothers me - seems a bit too much for the rest of the image. |

"The Great Gatsby" Rememberedby beatabgComment: Comment Challenge: Something doesn't work with this image. I think it is the woman vs. the car - she looks like she has been photoshopped into the picture - like she is supposed to be sitting on the car, but appears to be too big to be that far back in the image. At the same time, her position is too awkward to be doing anything but sitting on the car. I love the car's cracking paint, missing doors, lights, etc. The pink cast is well done, and if it is too much, just a tad. |

The Picture of Dorian Gray by mrchhasComment: Comment Challenge: This is such a great image on so many levels. I love the three incarnations - the real, the reflection, and the portrait. I love the use of the arched alcove above the reflection's head. Very nice monochrome. |

To the Lighthouse: Virginia Woolfby vikasComment: Comment Challenge: Love the fire in the sky. Great lighthouse. Perhaps a less centered composition would be an improvement (but how do you give up the fire in the clouds on either side?). Also, the lighthouse appears to be a bit underlit / dark. |
