My opinion is that your score is more a result of people not knowing what they were looking at, plus being more than a little out of the box, much more than the quality / impact of the photo.

The background (central light radiating outwards) and the shadows (strong light from viewer's left) are incongruent. Otherwise, this is a very nice picture.

Looking at one monument from under another

IMO, the sky in this looks overprocessed - on my screen, there are distinct arched bands across the sky above the opera house. There is some halo'ing (white edge) on the tower roof and top girder of the bridge arch. Also, there is a large discrepancy in lighting between the right and left sides of the photograph. This also creates competing focal points. I would suggest going for a "framed opera house", using the bridge arch, and the round tower up to just to the left of the window and down to about the 2nd tan stone.
I like the idea of the two monuments and looking from one to the other, but the lighting at this angle and time of day just isn't cooperating with you.
