Nice sharp focus, and black-and-white was an excellent choice. The cropping seems a little tight on the right; I might have gotten just a bit more of the nose or face to orient the viewer. But it's a minor point. Well done!

Nice perspective and DOF. I like the earthy tones also. Lots of things to look for and pick out of this one. It looks like an early morning shot (am I right?). Not sure what I think of the border, but I say that about most borders. Nice job!

Uh-oh. Pressure's on, pixelpig. To elaborate on my earlier comment, I do like this, but I think the colors are a bit flat. Also it would be good if there were something even faintly recognizable in the image to anchor the eye. It does leave a lot to the imagination which isn't a bad thing. I too can't wait to see what you bring to the challenge.
