Good color splash with the red on all the blue. I believe I would have tried to be there when the neon was just being lit up, before the sky faded down. Maybe they do not turn it on this time of year?
Good concept, and the image is sharp everywhere in the frame. I like it that way so I can make my own decision about what I want to look at in an image, but most people like to be led to the primary subject by depth of field and other visual clues.

I do not think this would be seen as a major "entrance" without the title. I understand what you were shooting for. Perhaps a couple of children running to the water would have been helpful.

Correctly exposed slow shutter. Meets challenge criteria head on. It seems to need something out of the ordinary to give it some extra punch. I'm not sure what that would be.

Good concept with the locket. I feel that the image will be getting hammered for the shadow. I would have done this idea over a candle lit dinner table, with his and her hands. I know that takes a lot of setting up though to photograph it well.

Diffusion on the light would help reduce highlights on the chess pieces a bit.
Only chess players would grasp the meaning of the title. Detail is very sharp all over the image.
