Desert Dodgeby AarthekComment: This is very cool! I feel that it would have done better in challenge if you had time to wait until the sun was low in the sky, to get a deep blue sky and orange evening light across the vehicle. I see that it's not bullet proof LOL. Reminds me of Bonnie & Clyde's demise. |

Union Pacific 1307by LeoComment: I had an engine modeled after this in my train set when I was a kid, with the same Union Pacific color scheme and logo. Thanks for the memory jog.
It's a good utility photo, but the white sky is going to dink the score. |

Lazy Dazeby GermaineComment: Dejavu, well almost. You must work or eat lunch in this location. It seems to be a fine place to people watch with your camera in hand.
I like the way the 4 blue elements anchor the center of the shot. |

Mar 24 - Limeby hajekaComment: Extension tubes are my weapon of choice too, when I want to get in close on things. They also work pretty nicely with a tele lens. I use one with an old manual 180mm lens for butterflies and dragonflies. It allows you to fill the frame without getting very close to the bug and scaring it off. |

en statueby scooter97Comment: The composition makes this shot for me. Just a little higher to get the top of the opening would have been just a tad better, but this is an eye catcher, even as a thumb, because of the unusual shapes. I like the detail in the shadow too. |

IMG_9783web.jpgby MarjoComment: What marvelous timing. If you had been using a longer lens, you would probably not have this scene. Sometimes a little wider view makes us see more of what it there to shoot. The birds contrast quite nicely against the rather busy BG in this shot, due to good focus and their brighter colors. |

Mar 22 - Inside a tulipby hajekaComment: I run into the same focus problems when I get in close. I seem to shoot most of my macro outdoors using my monopod, and generally there is just enough breeze to keep everything moving a little. When you get this close to a subject, DOF is very tiny. Some of the better micro macros are done by shooting a group of shots at slightly differing focus points, and then masking the OOF areas and stacking them to achieve greater DOF than can be done in a single exposure. I think that there is a DPC tutorial on it somewhere.
Ext tubes are my choice too for this sort of thing. I sometimes use an 11 mm tube on a 20mm lens and it is a great combo if you can put the lens right on the subject. |

Fishing Fleetby GermaineComment: Perfect exposure for a night shot. This is a very picturesque place, I miss the salt air, but I expect that is smells a little fishy at this location LOL. |
