Key West is a crazy place. I have seen that thing from the water more than from the street there. I hope that you got a chance to enjoy the Sunset Park thing while you were down there. Here's what it looks like from about 1 1/2 miles out at 300 mm.

Is that the hotel where you got the rooftop shot, on the right side of this?

I think that it's pretty cool looking when the clouds on the east side of the sky color up like this at sunset. It occurs here in S Florida about once a month, and to this level about once every couple of months. It is beautiful when it happens.
