Reflecting Giantby trevytrevComment: Very nice! I've been up in that Arch a couple of times and it is amazing! This shot has an IR look to it the way the trees stand out against the sky and the white ground. I agree about the grain..it is kinda neat in the foreground water, but I don't like it in the sky that much. I'm pretty sure I would prefer it without the grain. |

03 Caitlinby SandyPComment: Wow Sandy and Caitlin! What a wonderful contrast in light and emotion. This is such an awesome portrait that I don't think it would have mattered one way or the other on the grain. It looks so nice just like it is..and I'm sure would look just as nice at iso 100.... |

Signal Fadingby JBHaleComment: I actually liked this quite a lot and gave it a 7 during voting. It is definately a strange conversion with the combined saturated sky and desaturated foreground. I would have given it higher marks if it had been a good old fashion black and white conversion though (especially if the flat lit foreground was dodged and burned to give some texture).

May the Circle be Unbrokenby purpleflutterby13Comment: This photo doesn't really work for me personally, but I gave it a 7 during voting because it is well composed, technically good and creative. Actually I love the effect from the horizon up (just considering the trees), it was the buildings and tree on the bottom that made me dizzy. Great tones and colors too. |

Mtn Goat in the Elkhornsby XukoComment: I gave this a 6 during voting and I really liked the strong diagonal composition. A little more seperation from the background and a little more contrast in the hair (as figaro mentioned) and I would have voted higher. It is really shocking how high the standards are with wildlife photography here at DPC...5.2 certainly isn't a reflection of the quality of this shot. |

Sarahby jwillertonComment: I really like this shot and gave it an 8 during voting. The stare works so well and I don't mind the blown out hair at all. I actually do prefer the original color version and would have probably given it a 9 though. I love dramatic lights comeing from odd locations as your seperation light is...just suites my taste I guess. I really am shocked this didn't score at least a 6....strange! |

pirouetteby krnodilComment: I just noticed that this finished 1 place in front of mine! I think one problem with the shot (and it is a lovely shot!) is the in focus leaf tips kinda take the viewer away from the berries. The shallow DOF works fine for me, but only if there aren't random other spots in focus... |

Tatt Meby ingridblueComment: I like this composition with the diagonal arm adding some tension and the diagonal line in the background. I think the processing is fine and the lighting is good. For some reason I don't feel "involved" in the scene though..perhaps because the girls expression is so "hum drum". I think it is the small things that brought this photo down to its score..the flourescent light, and the tatooers OOF back of head. Also keep in mind that this is a free study so the voting can be harsher. This had the capability to score in the 6s in a themed challenge in my opinion. |

Fairy Dustby JuliBocComment: Julianne, my initial reaction when I saw this was the grain and the border destroyed it. You said in your comments "lighting, composition, and focus are decent.." I think people are expecting the technicals to be perfect rather than decent in a free study (for good or bad...). I gave it a 4 during voting mainly because I had no "connection" with the subject conbined with the "decent" but not perfect technicals. I also agree with most of what has been said below. |

main-01-21-08-5322.jpgby fixedintimeComment: Oh yea, I think this one may be in the worst shape of any of the previous ones. It makes for an interesting photo though! It looks like it has had electricity recently though...
This one has an interesting shape..that small little off shoot on the left side looks open underneath? Probably where they stored the tractors and such. |
