Round styling hairbrush? Like the colours on the metal.

Hmm, I would say it is something embedded in ice - a slice of apple perhaps?
As far as voting goes, I am basing my score on the photos technical qualities and aesthetic appeal, combined with an attempt to meet the challenge. You have a really good tonal range here, with some interesting and pleasing textures; the focus is crisp in the centre and foreground. I would have preferred the diagonal to be accenuated a little more by rotation a few degrees clockwise.

Just revisited - I think it may be a slice of apple dropped in to running water?

Superb! The detail in the texture of the newly fledged feathers is so clear, the focus spot on, and it is well composed too - very good work indeed. And wrens are probably my favourite bird too!

You have certainly got some strong portraits in your portfolio - this is my favourite. There is just enough in the photograph to give a really clear sense of place, without it becoming cluttered. Excellent work.

Hmm, if I push my monitor right back I can see the detail in the adult swans, but if I leave it so that I can see the full range in the white-greyscale-black rectangle, it appears very over exposed. Nonetheless, beautifully observed.

Shambles is the old English word for butchers. Here in York we have a very old street called The Shambles, after the many butchers shops that were located there; sadly the last one closed a couple of years ago to make way for yet another shop selling tourist tat. I like this photo - it sums up all that is good about independent family shops. Very well done.

A nice portrait, but there is something unnatural looking about the textures - the skin and hair over the face look too smooth, almost as though the are painted.
