Ok, it is some 27 years since I read this, and in all honesty would have to re-read it to get the relevance of the props. A such, I shall have to score the photo as a traight still-life - and it is good! The mono-conversion is sound, with a full range of tones from black through to true white, and the elements fit together well. The alarm clock is the only element that I have some doubt about - especially as it (at least in this form) post-dates Hardy!

i find the floating daffodill somewhat disturbing - almost as though the image is part of a bad dream. i am being fairly inarticulate here - it is not that I mean that this is a bad photograph, per se, but rather that it makes me feel rather uncon=mfortable - does this make any sense?
