I like your choice of photo for the challenge, too. It is technically well taken with an impressively deep depth of field; I particular like the way the texture and colour of the wood and peeling paintwork is shown.

I was impressed by this during voting, and remain so now. It is a really strong study of a mundane, every day object. You have shown the texture of the metal very well, the composition is strong, and the mono-conversion stronger still.

I looked at this for some time during voting, but in the end couldn't decide what I made of it (although I guess a viewer makes of any exhibit what they do...) - on the one hand I liked the juxtaposition of the different elements, even though I didn't know what they all were, and I liked the over-all aesthetic 'feel', but on the other it somehow bothered and frustrated me that I didn't understand what the photographer was trying to communicate.

I can see why you love this. The wonderful dappled light gives the feeling that the photographer is stealing a peak at the bird. The colour is so vibrant against the dark background.

What a character - and you have captured the eccentricity well. The choice of processing is very clever, with the would-be mayor as one with the statues, or perhaps like an animation character, not quite real!

There looks as though there has been heaps of 'life' in that face - someone with stories to tell. The background blur sets of the portrait well, and the graininess adds to the overall effect.

Good detail on the fly, although the light is perhaps a little on the harsh side. Pleasingly composed, but what I like best is the softness and colour of the petals! Bemused my the votes of 1, 2 and 3...
