Last Lightby IvoComment: gorgeous use of slow shutter - the details in the trees and rocks, the smoothness of the water - the composition to lead our eyes up the river - outstanding! the only minor thing that even slightly takes away is the hard lines of color in the clouds - they seem so artificial - likely due to the boost in saturation to get them to jump out a bit |

Blue Highwayby benediktkrComment: the lines and slopes leading across the image have a lot to offer, but there is a lack of clarity to the image that gives it more of a muddy feel - i am convinced that a larger format would really make this one shine |

The Valley So Low by thegrandwazooComment: the grandeur of the valley and the rock formations is awesome - i am not convinced by the choice of composition - i think the rock formations and the valley below seem cut off - i think since it appears to be about the valley - it should have a larger impact to the photo |

golden fieldby david_cComment: This shot is great and I am happy it scored so well. But, do you realize that Photomatix Pro is illegal in basic? It is unfortunate becuase Photomatix pro does much the same as Shadows/Highlights does in PS for a single image and shadows/ highlights are allowed in basic...strange huh?

Yep, it is. The RAW file was converted to DNG, and the DNG was tone-mapped in Photomatix. The "curves" adjustment in Photoshop brought out the sky. Of course, that left the foreground painfully over-staurated. :-( | Message edited by author 2008-07-09 09:42:31. |

Conservation and Congregationby jonfrommkComment: Jon
The layers created by the grass, the trees, and the sky are well placed and give this the prototypical rule of thirds feel. The church looks like it has a lot of charm and interest, but with the small image size (don't you just hate 640?) the details are mostly lost
I just wonder about the choice of b/w here - were you trying to have the sky and the field look similar as if it is a reflection? If so, I think more details in the grass field are needed to give it the shimmering feel. If not the point, I think a color version may have been a better approach - to highlight the warm summer sky and the glow off the grass.
I really think the main reason for the low-ish score is an overall softness to the image...don't forget that us DPCers need it sharp, sharp, sharp! |
