Sailor's Delight by NeilComment: Neil, your photo was the first that came up when I went to look at FS shots. I'm sure it is scoring well for you - love the details you pulled out of the rocks. Almost looks HDR but not overprocessed. Can't wait to see who wins the Critical Mass head-to-head lighthouse competition :-) |

Imposingby SaraRComment: Sara, I love the lines and shadows in this. I was one of your 7's and would have voted an 8 with just a little more depth brought out in the sky. Anyway, very nicely done and a most creative way of seeing this structure! |

Canos de San Franciscoby bdennyComment: This is a very creative entry that I think might have scored a bit higher - certainly your commenters liked it a lot. It's very sharp, with beautiful lines and nice processing. The only nit is perhaps it could be a bit warmer - I'd love to see the rich tones of the wall brought out a bit more. |

Banish the Darknessby levyj413Comment: This is a lovely b/w conversion, Jeffrey. I didn't even know you were entering it, but still didn't vote, as I didn't get around to voting this challenge. LOL. Anyway - lots of stuff to like in this photo - excellent lighting with emphasis on the candles and not the face, a sense of mystery, a message. The one thing that doesn't quite work for me is the composition. The candles almost form a horizon across the center of the photo which makes it look a bit square to me. But still a lovely photo and most worthy entry! |

Panesby posthumousComment: This is an interesting take on the challenge, Don. It is certainly open for interpretation, which I like. I'm not going to comment on the technical aspects, because this photo is appears to be about a message, not technique. I do think the strongest aspect is the lighting behind the windows and the two humps that are probably fence posts but could be headstones - which certainly would reinforce your tribute to our most heinous economic conditions. Anyway, bottom line - I like this. It's interesting if not completely captivating. |

Moundsby jaysonmcComment: I confess I'm not sure what you were going for in this shot, Jayson. I've seen a lot of your work that is beautiful and artistic, and this one doesn't quite hit the mark for me - sorry :-( I would, however, like to know what these mounds are, so the photo generates some curiosity. And you do have some nice textures going. |

Twisted Sixerby colorcarnivalComment: An interesting concept and creative take on the challenge. I'll confess my eye is drawn more to the very bright areas behind the main subject clothes pin than the subject itself, though. This is particularly troublesome on the left-hand side of the photo where there are no interesting shadows crisscrossing the large blown area. I appreciate, however, that this may be a stylistic choice on your part, and again I do find this very creative. |

Old Bridge2by HipychikComment: Terry, I really like this version of what I call "Bob's Bridge," as I've seen it in a few of his shots. That's some serious DOF! |
