Sinkingby HipychikComment: Nice lighting, color, and contrast, especially for Minimal Editing rules. |

Small Tokenby PGerstComment: The ring is pretty, but the negative white space doesn't seem to add anything to the image. Good job on lighting and white balance for a Minimal Editing challenge. |

Shopping List: Need more beer!by tiggermoComment: Funny shot! You did a good job of cleaning that frige. The lighting is good, and although it seem to meet the challenge, I find the refrigerator to be much more the subject than the bottle and list. |

God's Giftby bcobleComment: The fence in the background is a dead giveaway that this is a zoo or aviary shot. It doesn't make the bird any less beautiful, but it does diminish the value of the image. As long as you were dealing with a captive bird, I think it would have been good to wait until the bird was leaning a little more toward you. Also if possible, get in a position where the branch is on a more interesting angle, possibly with a little background beneath it. If the branch is a horizontal perch you might try tilting the camera.
Having said all that, I want you to know that I think the focus is good, the colors are lovely, and the Lory is adorable. I think you did a good job of capturing the sheen of the feathers without blowing out the highlights (hard to do). I hope you can go back and get lots more shots of this good subject. |

Spring Timeby bmartuchComment: I am not a fan of very shallow DOF unless there is really one unique subject surrounded by similar subjects. In this shot, the red and yellow tulips are all beautiful, and I think I would have preferred to see them all in focus, and possibly with a little burning to darken the solid red ones to make the multi-colored tulips stand apart. The colors and light here are wonderful, though, and you have a beautiful image. |

Freebirdby seeComment: Originally posted by skiprow: that's a moment. too bad you were so tight you could protect your horizon from the tilt-police ;-) |
I am usually among those referred to as the "tilt police", because a crooked horizon makes me uncomfortable. But in this shot, there is so much wonderful action in the foreground, and the subject is so dramatic, I don't mind the horizon at all.
Great capture, I'm afraid to ask what happened next. |

study of a young womanby silverfoxxComment: I showed this to my husband, and he immediately, without hesitation, said "Vermeer". Looks like you did achieve your goal. Although I don't really know what your goal was.
But you achieved a good high score, and a really good ranking for a challenge with over 700 entries of people's best work. Congratulations!!! |

Ponte Vecchio, Florenceby raishComment: You deserved a much higher score IMO. I gave this shot a 10 (and I was very stingy with the 10s in this challenge, since there were so many excellent shots. (Didn't want my aver-score-given to wind up in the 9 range. How stupid would that look?)
I love the mood, the muted colors, the composition. It has the feel of a classical painting. The frame enhances it nicely too, although I try not to include my feeling about the frame in my scoring of the image. |
