very well done. aquariums are notoriously hard to shoot well, so you've done a great job with this. Very nice clarity and sharpness. a little more contrast wouldn't hurt, but it's nice as it is. I'll be looking to see what lens you shot this with.

the colour and lighting are a little flat. bump your contrast and it should really help sharpen it up (it's hard to tell how sharp it really is due to the lack of contrating edges in my opinion). A little dodging and burning would go a long way here i think. nice shot.

cool. not sure how well it will do in this challenge, but makes a very nice photo nonetheless. If this were mine, I'd try burning those mountains in the background right down to shadows which would really punctuate the field and separate the sky.
good luck,

great shot, not so great colour to put Puggsly on :) something a little more contrasty would help define him in the centre a little better i think. the focus in nice and sharp, and his expression is priceless (or perhaps 'her' I can't tell from this angle - we'll leave that one of 'unusual perspectives' :))

very nice. this is one of those pics that I'd like better off-centre (I'm sure you took those too), but given the challenge is perfectly suitable. the glow through the clouds is phenomenal. I might have opted for a little more sky and a little less earth, but that one of those things that we leave to the anal voters and their need to analyze the 'dead centre' semantic to death :). great job in either case (looking forward to outtakes).

couldn't you have found a prettier model? Nice pic despite the subject. might have burned the windows a bit, plus the glow off GKs forehead. a little more contrast would be nice, but that's just my preference.
on another note...isn't he the cetre of attention enough? :)

magic. can't tell if you burned the vignette around her or if this is from your lens, but it works wonderfully (i did it on mine too). the high-key contrast is awesome, and the grain really works given the subject. Aside from this challenge i don't think I'd have cropped it that way, but given the rules, you had to. very creative. P

The first thing I notice off the bat is the subject is not all that enticing. real spiders maybe, plasitc ones...not so much. secondly the surface that it sits on is a very difficult one to expose properly because of all the shiny bits. You get lots of little blown out reflections, and it generally will underexpose your subject because of the huge contrast between it and the surface.
On the plus side, your DOF is nice, focus on the middle is sharp, and you've controlled the lighting on the object nicely.
as for meeting the challenge, some of the anal-ysts will get you because they won't look at the abdomen as the focal point, they choose the sternum and tell you you're not in the centre. tough to meet the challenge in this case using that perspective on the spider.
Hope this helps. Sometimes you have to be around DPC awhile before you get the voters figured out. of course, just when i think I've got them figured out i get hammered anyway, but whaddevah. :)

this seems quite soft to me, perhaps a lighting issue. It's hard to get away with soft-focus on the close-up/macros, even if it's intentional. A little contrast would go a long way here i think. great saturation of colours. P
