I love the colors in this photo! I may have cropped a bit tighter on the left side & bottom to remove some, but not all of the dark bush. The branches show such wonderful movement. This is a great photo!

Ah, Mt. Rushmore...I grew up in South Dakota and this is an very true to life photograph. It's just stunning!

You caught the lighting just perfectly and the blue really is that blue. Love how you can see the colors in the granite itself. Very sharp focus. Well done! Hope you enjoyed your trip!

I really am liking everything about the photo. If I were to make a suggestion, perhaps a little different crop so the leaf is not dead center. And NO, you don't always have to follow the rules. It's what YOU like, not everyone else. Our comments are suggestions and purely subjective.

I like the composition and the crop. Focus is very good. Might appeal to more people if the colors were a little less overexposed. Since you were using a flash, perhaps use a smaller aperture or use exposure compensation in the camera (love that feature on the XT) would help make the colors a bit more vibrant. Could also work a little magic post processing, but I like that you are trying to get the best straight from the camera. That's the very best way to learn. I really like this photo! For being in a hurry, you've done a great job.
