Greetings from the Critique Club

Sorry this did not score higher for you, I felt it was worthy of a higher score. On the other hand, you have a Posthumous comment and an Undieyatch award, so hopefully those helped offset any disappointment from the score.

I really liked the fact you actually showed some motion in your picture. Too many in this challenge, for me at least, did not really do that, which was disappointing. Converting to black and white was a good choice in my opinion. I only wonder if perhaps it could have had a little bit less contrast as some of the details are lost due to the very dark shadows. I do like the vignette, that worked very well.

Overall, I thought this was well composed, a good subject that definitely met the challenge. The only reason I didn't score it higher, was I felt it could have had a little bit less contrast.

Well done and again, sorry it didn't score higher.

They look like they were really enjoying themselves.

There are a few things that I think would have improved this image and garnered you a higher score. Personally I think you have cropped the picture too much. From a compositional point of view, I really think this would benefit with a bit more of the sea in the frame. The picture feels quite small, again I think due to the cropping and resizing for the web. Have you tried using the save for web functionality that comes with many editing packages? This strips the exif data from the file this allowing you to retain better quality images when resizing for the web. I noticed that the exif data was still present in your file, so possibly you would have had a better quality file, if you had saved it for the web.

You got a pretty solid score for this image, I just felt with a few tweaks here and there, this could have scored a bit higher.

Well done for getting a good solid score in this challenge. Always nice to score a six or higher. I am afraid I only rated this photo a 5, which may, on reflection be a bit tough (sometimes I wish we had a chance to go to more decimals).

Whilst I felt this captured the challenge topic pretty well, there were a few things that just stopped me giving it a 6. I found the composition to be a bit too cramped. I would like to have seen some more space around the dog, so it was more in context that it is.

The stick is hiding the dog's eyes which is a pity. Finally, for me, the lighting seemed to be a bit flat, making the colours a bit flat too. I felt a tweak in the levels to brighten it up a bit and a slight boost to the saturation would have made this stand out a bit more.

Anyway, you got a coveted Post Luminous award, so you know at least one person liked it a lot!

Greetings from the Critique Club

The first thing that pops into my mind when looking at this, is what is the subject? Is it the branches of the tree, or is it the bird? In other words, it was not immediately obvious which possibly hurt your score.

I didn't vote on this one, but probably would have only given it a 5. Although it is quite well composed, I found the branch sticking in the top left of the frame to be distracting, as it invades what would be some negative space, and also it is out of focus. Given that this was an advanced editing challenge, I do not think it would have been out of line to have cloned that out.

The sky is not a particularly interesting colour, it is not intense enough to give the impression of a sunset, but tends to look grey and a bit murky. Given that the tree and bird are in silhouette, I may have been tempted to try this one in black and white (but then, I am a big black and white fan).

My critique sounds a bit harsh, apologies, I was just trying to explain the lowish score. It is not a bad image, I just think it could have been a bit stronger with some extra editing steps.

Well, this was certainly one of my favourites in this challenge and one of my highest scores. Sorry it didn't do better.

Don't think you are creatively challenged at all right now! This is an added bonus, as we get 2 for the price of 1.
