Canal 7622by MelethiaComment: Nice leading lines/vanishing point. I'd love to see how it looked with some tonemapping/Lucis/Topaz. (Assuming it's not had any treatment) Message edited by author 2009-05-23 14:02:44. |

Khof 7283by MelethiaComment: I love the composition of this one Deb. The line of mini hyacinth through the middle of the tulips is very nice. |

no need for roses by StagoleeComment: Been back over the older still life challenges and have to say, I think this is one of the best out of the previous 4 rounds! |

Canal Deck Furnitureby GreetmirComment: Greetings from the Critique Club
Sorry this did not score higher, I thought it was one of the more interesting images in this challenge. Also, check out the distribution of scores - that is really interesting. No 9s or 10s and no 1s or 2s, then an almost even distribution of the other scores. Quite unusual I think.
I love the composition, even though I'm sure this is a candid shot, it could conceivably have been a set up. The man looks so engrossed in his newspaper it is clear he is blissfully unaware that you have caught him. Nice.
I am a little unsure why this didn't score higher, other than perhaps there was too much (or maybe not quite enough) of the canal boat showing. Perhaps voters needed more context? I don't know, it certainly puzzles me. I would have expected the score to be much closer to a 6. |

Technically I don't see too much that is flawed with this image. It's in focus where it should be and the depth of field works well.
I think the biggest problem, in terms of the low score you received for this challenge, is the fact the main subject is not really furniture, so you will have been hit with lots of DNMC votes.

Balcony Furnitureby bobonacusComment: Greetings from the Critique Club
Technically this is a good shot, not blown out anywhere etc. The composition is also good, and if it was a different challenge topic, I am certain it would have received higher scores. However, I believe there is only really a tenuous relationship between the photo and the challenge topic. Yes, it does have furniture in it, but is the furniture the main subject of the image, well, I don't really think so. Seems a bit of a shoehorn entry and I can't help feeling this is why you received a sub five score.
As I said, I think if you had this in a different challenge, then it may have scored better. |
