A good day for shootingby MelethiaComment: Wonderful fun shot. Good colors and nice silhouettes. Great composition. I don't think there is anything I would really change. Congrats on the wonderful score. |

Charge of the Pepper Brigadeby MelethiaComment: Terrific bold, colorful picture. Sharpness is terrific, as we as the lighting. I like the symmetry in the stems. It is a very good product shot. |

Orange Abstractby snafflesComment: Oranges, oranges, oranges. Beautiful Light, Wonderful Lines, Great Textures! I actually like this composition quite a bit. It has nearly everything that I personal like in a photo.
I am guessing for the reasons for the lower score:
1) probably a couple of more passes through Unsharp Mask would have greatly helped
2) While a beautiful picture, I think many people have seen this "type" of picture before
If I would have voted in the challenge, I would have given it a 7 or 8. Oh well, highly underrated. |

Fruit Salad, anyone?by levyj413Comment: The technicals are pretty good in this picture. Great exposure, good contrast, and nice sharpness. I like the color palette being used, very bright and in your face. A good choice to go with the background.
I think this would have had more impact if it was straight on than titled. Don't know for sure, just a thought.
I think the biggest issue is that this is the typical staged studio shot. Nothing wrong with that in itself, but I think the art comes by making it look natural even though it is not. The elements here look artificially placed (which of course they are). While a cute setup, it is very unnatural. This is why I typically don't do "studio" type shots myself, it is very hard for me to make it look natural. A good attempt!
However, barring that one negative, it is still a well composed, has the great technicals, great color, and is fun/whimsy. This is the type of shot, that I personally would think about revisiting in a year and see if your "style" becomes more prevalent in the picture. |

My two servings for the dayby bmartuchComment: I like the detail here. The textures in the bubbles really shine through. I also like the contrast in the red and yellow, good use. The lemon slice is perfect the nice perfect line it makes across the glass. While I like the angle of the shot (it is really good), I'm just curious what made you decide the current composition (glass cut off where it is). Nothing wrong with it, just curious why you did not include the glass to the base, or less of the glass to match the rime. Really, just wondering why the current composition, nothing against it though. Great sharp, "instant" moment type of capture. |

Gazing upon our own reflectionby posthumousComment: Nice setup. I actually like the lighting choice here. The side/back lighting gives a nice depth to the subjects. I like how the mushrooms slowly loose depth in the photo, though I might have preferred the foreground to be within the focused depth. Minor thing. The reflection is wonderful. I had a background window screen once, and got beaten down for it, but here I think it is subtle and works well. Nice image.
I doubt many would have stopped long enough to give a DNMC because of a mushroom. I think that takes too long of a pause when voting to register, and we all know how click happy us voters can be. |

Tangerine Dreamsby quiet_observationComment: I get it, it's a reflection, "the dream" part. Too bad it is a little too out there for voters. It is actually interesting to see the different angle of the orange in the reflection, it actually gives a good pause to the shot. |

Tunnel visionby quiet_observationComment: I won't delve too much into the points others made (slight green tint and slight blur) which held the photo back as far as score. What really amazes on this photo, not sure if you did a crop or not, but the lines end almost perfectly at the end of the frames. Amazing the way it was composed (or cropped). Generally, at least what I find appealing, in highly organized shapes and architecture it helps to have the end point not so busy. I think if the hall wasn't cluttered it would help. I would be tempted to burn it out and see how it fars. Still as I mentioned perfect composition. Message edited by author 2007-02-19 01:45:00. |
