as beauty diesby photorjpComment: My canned response: whatever one's definition is of fine/contemporary/modern art, I think this entry is too much like business as usual at DPC. In this case: another very pretty flower photo. Good color and clarity, but a calendar image, which is the opposite of what the challenge called for, at least as I understand it. |

As the Ice Meltsby bobnospumComment: I think the point of this challenge was to push boundaries and aim for a more contemporary feel -- to avoid the usual calendar images.
That may not have been clear from the challenge name, though the description pointed to a discussion thread where some of this was hashed out. |

Promiseby DennisheckmanComment: Pretty flower photo, but it doesn't really bring anything new to the table. The point of this challenge (at least as I understood it) was to push some boundaries and to aim for a more cutting edge, contemporary feel -- and to reward something other than the usual ribbon-winning landscapes and calendar images. |

Beam Me Upby JedusiComment: Nice deep blacks make the red really pop. Good exposure on the machine. I thought for a moment the red on-off switch was his reflection.
