Greetings from the Critique Club!

Initial impression: Colours are almost surreal, but especially with that sky looming overhead, I don't see why they couldn't be natural.

Technical: Very open and dramatic, like the pov with the cliffs appearing to vanish from underneath your feet. Not too crazy about what appears to be a lot of tonemapping on the sky, the clouds look a bit soft, and cliff to left looks almost a little flat by comparison to rest of image.

Artistic: Like the way you got the two islands at the thirds on the right. Good work on the colours, the richness of the water does not look overdone imho.

Overall: Nice picture, could be a postcard. I feel the voters objected more to the level of pp than anything else.

Good work!

Feel free to PM me with any questions,

Susan

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Initial impression: 'Oh gawd, that's gorgeous' is the exact phrase I uttered upon seeing this shot. Just lovely.

Technical: Great dof (though would be curious to see how it looks with camera on a tripod thus allowing for even greater dof), thirds and leading lines all work beautifully together. Light is simply amazing. Just a stunning capture. Great timing, catching that golden light.

Artistic: James Herriot should be striding up that fenceline on the left coming to tend a sick cow now, shouldn't he? Serene and just lovely beyond words. My roots are British, and this is the UK I've always wanted to see. Lucky you living there. *rummaging to find passport*

Overall: A top 20 finish is nothing to sneeze at but this could have easily ribboned. Wish it had! Would have perhaps liked to see the image slightly bigger, but better to err on the side of caution than risk distortion.

Excellent work, hope to see more of it in the future.

Feel free to PM me with any questions,

Susan

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Initial impression: Great image but oh so small! Never be afraid to max out the dimensions, especially with an image like this.

Technical: DOF looks quite good, composition draws the eye to the mountain on the right. The sky and purple/blue tones help offset everything beautifully.

Artistic: Love the sage and scrubby land of the desert visible in the foreground, give an idea as to how darn far away those mountains are. Terrific pan work.

Overall: Again, just aching to see this shot, completely maxed out in terms of dimensions (or as much as possible without distortion).

Good work, keep shooting and don't be shy about going BIG!

Feel free to PM me with any questions,

Susan

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Initial impression: Looks like the opening or closing scene of a movie about a city's redemption. Going by the comments, others agree.

Technical: Composition, apart from obeying rule of 1/3s and not being too centred, isn't earth-shattering but the capture of light is really well done. Someone mentioned the haze being distracting, but if that is part of the skyline in Manila, then you are simply being true to your subject. I am a litle thrown by the immediate foregreound, can't quite make out if it's a dump, shoreline, etc.

Artistic: Great timing, again a very dramatic capture, great timing with the clouds parting.

Overall: Good work, well deserving of your finish in 33rd place and glad to see you didn't go overboard on the pp. Well done!

Feel free to PM me with any questions,

Susan

a great image, but looks like the dimensions were changed to max out the size of the pic and as a result the horse is very distorted.5
