| 08/11/2017 02:28:35 PM | Mother Natureby GeorgesBogaertComment: Greetings from the Critique Club! I am impressed by the amount of work you put into this shot, and how bummed out you may feel by its poor score.
Like the commenters, I see the landscape and am drawn in by it...I have to admit that your son, cute as he may be, is simply a distraction. After all look at that gorgeous scenery he is competing with! His body language seems to reflect that he just isn't interested in what's going on around him, so his disengagement comes across. The post work is nice but as you must realize by now, even the most painstaking amount of post won't help an image that is weak. For me personally, bleachy clouds - like those to the right of the pic - are another distraction t draw my eye away from the mountains.
Hope this has been useful, feel free to PM me

| 08/11/2017 02:21:57 PM | Mirror, Mirror, am i the most ferocious hornet in the whole jungle?by ZuantnangComment: Greetings from the Critique Club! This is a fascinating image, mostly because most wasps are yellowy and black, first time I've seen one with such colouration...so that definitely adds exotic appeal to the pic. At first I thought it was challenging its reflection in a camera lens, but then read your notes. Good idea to rotate the image to make the water look like something else, without losing the impact of the shot. The settings are all spot on, ambient light seems OK and the composition works well in this square format. And for what I believe to be your first entry here, a very respectable placing in a Free Study. Keep up the good work and would like to see more soon,

The beetle's antennae make a great way to lead the eye into the pic and to that funny little face it has. The ambient lighting is perfect and the comp dead simple but very effective. Even the colours work perfectly with the green of the leaf being complementary to the orange eye area. Great find, and well deserving of the high score *and HM in a FS no less. Keep up the great work, and look forward to seeing more of your work in the future.

| 08/09/2017 09:22:53 PM | Hi Wanna Ride?by coovt2001Comment: Greetings from the Critique Club! A very nicely seen and caught shot of someone who truly pimps his ride :-) Love the b/w and the pan makes the shot - the rest of the tuktuk is slightly blurry but his face, the important part, is in focus and he does look like he is trying to catch your eye. Now as to why the low placing...the composition is okay but very safe....there are some bleachy areas of white ie the roof of the vehicle...and some people will simply not care for the panning effect. (Same goes for lots of zoomblur effects, anytime the shutter is open longer than usual and the camera is being moved). This candid moment also has a bit of a snapshot feel to it. FS is very difficult to do well in because you can enter pictures of anything, and this pic simply failed to catch the votes.
Hope this critique has been of help, feel free to PM me

| 08/04/2017 05:40:20 PM | Emerging by clickodakComment: Greetings from the Critique Club! Very interesting image here, Marcel, and had to laugh at the comment about it looking like the cover of a self-help book :-) I do think the way the flower echoes the shape of the hand is very cool, and the colours complement each other well. In terms of getting across the idea of hands, the hand is competing with the flower. That's why I think it finished relatively low. You do have quite a bit of chromatic aberration (aka 'purple fringe' on the right side of the hand, and it looks like the hand texture is overlaid atop the flower, which makes the flower have a skin-like appearance. Overall not a bad idea, tough to pull off, but at least you had a nice clean hand to work with :-)
