hmmm the pour shot is nice, but the 3/4 drinking shot not so much. Profiles work better, maybe with the glass just touched to the lips before the bottoms up?

I hope that's a mannequin providing the face for this image...either that or someone has had way too much botox!!

Wonderful work, Wendy! We've had egrets in this area but alas never close enough for a shot like this. Huge congrats on a final placing in the 8s!!

LOL welcome to the crazy world of bird and wildlife photography!! See how much fun it is with an environment and subject over which you usually have minimal, if any control? :-0

I guessed right off that this was a zoo or raptor park shot. The colour of the water, looks like jesses were cloned out and the eagle's got a chunk of raw meat in its talons, not fish. Facilities like that don't generally feed live prey, as it upsets people to see a living animal destroyed before them. But tossing meat that the bird is accustomed to, into water, gives the bird exercise and a chance to remember that it's supposed to get its food from water, not a handler wearing welding gloves.

Still, a very good shot and I can't tell you the number of times I've got a shot that would otherwise be perfect except for missed focus. Great work!

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Hmm I have to agree that a waterfall, especially one with the nice silky water effect, doesn't really count as mundane...though the sky is doing its best! Lots of nice textures and colours despite the drab day. Composition is OK though I think a crop from the top and right would help this image as would a little more saturation.

Overall very nice work, please keep on shooting and entering!

Feel free to PM me,

Greetings from the Critique Club!

A lovely shot indeed but I do find myself echoing the masses...the trashbins do not do this otherwise perfect shot, any justice. Great leading lines, use of thirds, the light is nice and soft, there is an untold story here...but then the trash bins grab the viewer's eye and the fantasy is gone. They are such an obviously fake shade of blue and green, they take away from the lovely muted colours and tones going on here.

This was an Advanced challenge, cloning out of unwanted items is allowed so long as you are not removing a major element. The trashbins are very minor, a couple of clicks and eh wala. If you don't have PS or like to be a purist and do as little editing as possible, you could have lowered the POV a little so the beachgrass would obscure the trashbins.

DPCers love this type of shot and processing. So, frankly, without the bins, this could have easily been a very high-scoring shot, I would think top 10-top 15.

Sorry if I a coming across as hammering at you a little. That isn't my intention. But this is a tough site, there is no other way to learn than to enter and see what shakes out. Also it wouldn't hurt to tick the 'Photographer found comment helpful' box every so often. Failing to do so across the board comes across poorly.

Feel free to PM me,

Susan
