Nothing wrong with photographing birds in captivity. But, the viewer should expect lots of detail on a closeup portrait. I'm not too excited about the all black bg, but it is dramatic. The strength of this image is the eye color and detail. Very nicely done.

I have trouble getting past the distraction of the lighter vignette. Maybe this was a very low light situation.

Dramatic and awesome face. I also think it's effective selective focus. However, the backgroud horizontal lines are a distraction.

Disturbing radial blur treatment of the grass. The gull looks cut and pasted in. Focus and feather detail lacking. Composition is too center-middle. The exposure is even.

This would guarantee the birds will show up in this place in the future. It's an interesting study in human nature. I'd like to see more detail in the birds. I don't mind the somewhat distant view, but some detail is lost in the shadows.
