It took every ounce of his remaining strength, but he was on top once more. Oh, he realised that it was only metaphorically, that he had ceded his dominance to a younger, more vigourous ram long ago, but standing here now, surveying the crags and valleys where he'd watched over his harem for so many years he felt a surge of pride and satisfaction. It had been a hard life and he had the scars to prove it but he'd risen to the challenge. He was ready to go now; he'd gained the peak one last time and could now take the rest he'd earned.
