Hats Offby jjbeguinComment: A flea-market salesman with hundreds of hats, no customers, and a broken down car. Negative space. Congratulations on the well deserved blue ribbon. |

Transition from Stem to Flower by pointandshootComment: Originally posted by JuliBoc: I love the effect you got with USM. Do you have a formula you use for the different settings? |
Thank you Julianne. I have no clue how to sharpen with USM but I think I read somewhere (probably in a DPC forum) that it was best accomplished in several passes of small intensity - one pass after converting from RAW and the others after final resizing. I prefer to use high pass or edge sharpening, however, neither is legal in basic. (unless the rule has been changed)
Most of the detail in this photo was a result of using an excellent lens and the fact that I backlit with a green light and front lit with daylight. This allowed me to use selective color and curves to combine the textures as I saw fit. |

A Brief Moment of Silenceby jjbeguinComment: As DPC grows, perhaps another ruleset, somewhere between expert and advanced editing, will be introduced to allow for this specific situation.
Meanwhile, I agree with Brad. Both you, and your photo are definitions of class. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your excellent work. |
